My daughter is in Class 9, so I've been following the CBSE three-language policy updates quite closely.

- Current Class 10 students are not affected. They will continue with the existing two-language system. The three-language requirement does not apply to this batch.

- Current Class 9 students will continue with the transition arrangements announced by CBSE.

- My daughter's combination until Class 8 was English, Hindi and French. Since French historically ended after Class 8 in her school, she's currently studying only English and Hindi. Under the new framework, she'll likely have Sanskrit introduced as R3 because that's the only additional Bharatiya Bhasha her school offers.

- Students already studying two non native languages (like English + French) get a one-time relaxation. They can continue those two languages and add one Bharatiya Bhasha as R3.

- If a Class 9 student doesn't clear the R3 assessment, they will still be promoted to Class 10. They'll get another chance to clear it in Class 10 before the Board results. Passing R3 is still required to receive the CBSE Class 10 Pass Certificate.

- Families moving to another state get relief. Students can continue studying the same R3 language if the new school can arrange it.

- NCERT has already started uploading R3 learning material online.

As a parent, I don't have a problem with students learning another language.

I have a problem with how changes like this are introduced.

Last year, Class 9 books were revised and many students received them well into the academic session.

This year too, there have already been delays. For example, the new Social Science textbook became available only about a week ago.

And now schools, teachers, parents and students have another major policy update to absorb after classes are already underway.

Whether someone supports or opposes the three-language policy is a separate debate. The implementation should never become an additional burden on students.

Sharing this in case it helps other parents understand what actually changed.
