This demonstrates the power of activism. As soon as Brown announced it was cutting men's track/XC, supporters around the country sprung into action. People like @savebrowntrack and @DancingDinks spoke out and spread the message. 12 days later, the program was saved.
Brown University has reinstated its men's track & field and cross country teams as varsity sports, effective immediately.
Full letter from university president Christina Paxson to the Brown community:
VICTORY for @savebrowntrack If this teaches me anything it’s that speaking up doesn’t go unheard. @DancingDinks the Ivy Track community is grateful to you. #oneivy
"[Track] has the biggest participation & affords the greatest accesses but you’re taking that away in lieu of sports that have very small participation numbers & a higher barrier to entry. I just felt it was completely wrong" - @DancingDinks

Track & Field is a uniquely accessible sport, which makes
@BrownUniversity's decision to cut Men's Track and replace it with Sailing, one of the most expensive, all the more confusing. With @lesternare I break down why this is an issue

"When Brown was taking away one of those opportunities, I saw a person like me not having that opportunity. That riled me up so much so that I had to call them out. This is wrong.” – @DancingDinks

Take a listen to this snippet from my recent conversation with @DancingDinks about why @BrownUniversity's decision to cut Men's Track and Field contradicts their recent statements regarding diversity and access on campus.

@BrownUniversity & @BrownAthletics & President Paxson maintain that their decision to cut Varsity Men's Track and Field is one based in excellence/competitiveness, diversity, and gender equity. This is definitively untrue. #savebrowntrack#falsestart
Spent a good chunk of my long run discussing how @BrownUniversity decided the best way to stay title ix compliant was to cut men’s teams and not advocate for more women... track 👏 is a👏joint👏 program👏 you are taking away coaches from WOMEN as well @savebrowntrack#falsestart
One of these is not like the other. Our Track and Field family stands in solidarity with the fight for racial justice and our black athletes. Our Ivy League peer institutions stand in solidarity. @BrownUniversity & @BrownAthletics, you do not.
