๐จ Help us save the Fleming Elementary basketball courts! ๐ These courts are vital to the school - we need to stop the plan to long term lease them to a developer. ๐

@VSB39 is proceeding to lease Fleming Elementary's play area to a developer, even though the school site will be needed for enrolling students as the school is at 107% capacity.

Do you think we need a new neighbourhood plan with more community services at Joyce Station? Fill out the form at https://t.co/eR1RGfXHGa to let us know. We will deliver all comments by hand to the City of Vancouver on September 26, 2024.
As this school year begins, parents want to know their kids are safe and focused on learning.
While weโre banning cell phones in schools so kids can focus in class, John Rustad is trying to ban textbooks on climate change.
The choice is stark.
@victoriajungvan@VSB39 Come check out the lack of bike lanes and safe travel routes for kids on the east side while you're on this topic. We would welcome a discussion with you so that we can show you some accident stats.
Big thanks to @bcndp, @RachnaSinghNDP, and @adriandix for funding Vancouver schools! ๐ @VSB39 is making progress too. @VanDPAC will keep amplifying parents' voices. ๐ซ Donโt miss the @VanDPAC annual general meeting on June 20th at 7 PM. Mark your calendars! ๐ #VanSchools
@PreetiFaridkot So many VSB board meetings are being held behind closed doors. Full copies of staff reports are not being released to the public even though their policies are being implemented. Parent consultation is merely performative. @VSB needs to be transparent and accountable.#vanpoli
@MikeKlassen@victoriajungvan@PreetiFaridkot@alfredchien1 Was the new school in Olympic Village funded with the sale proceeds from subdividing and selling off Fleming's playground ? Where did the funds from the sale of Fleming's playground go ?
Today's BC Parent Advisory Council conference & AGM presentation was fantastic! We're growing more confident in supporting parents & caregivers in advocacy. Yet, it's worrying that advocacy for students often falls solely on parents' shoulders. #Parenting#Advocacy#vanpoli
@E_Van_Mama These stats are great but don't include VSB's Kindergarten waitlists, cut backs to mini schools, proposed changes to make child care less affordable in Vancouver, and the spike in ELL students in need of support.
@school_olympic @vancouverobert @BrendaBaileyBC Olympic Village, with no school, is a reminder of the VSB's failed Long Range Facilities Plan, not anticipating growth. Critical updates are needed now with BC's TOD Area legislation in play. VSB urgently needs to align facility planning with future needs #LRFPUpdate
@pattibacchus ๐ซ Public education matters. The City subsidizes a private school, while the City and VSB plan to generate capital by selling off public school land. We must prioritize fair planning and ensure high-quality education for every child. #accessiblebc
@reddyforchange It would be great if the VSB Trustees could pass a motion to include calculations of school childcare space in the next LRFP. This is especially critical at this time, with 25 areas being declared as TOD Areas, and the City passing re-zoning applications with 0-5 childcare.
