Today marks 38 years since the Kings Cross fire, which tragically killed 31 people including station officer Colin Townsley.

The blaze, caused by a discarded match, escalated quickly and over 150 firefighters responded.

Townsley lost his life after becoming trapped in a flashover, trying to affect a rescue. #WeRemember

Earlier today, colleagues from across the Brigade attended a memorial service at Kings Cross station to lay wreaths and flowers and to pay their respects to those who died.

Has Clerkenwell reopened? FDNY seems to be proving to @BorisJohnson & @JamesCleverly that it wasn't obsolete. Shame it has now been sold. Londoners paid for it to be used as a fire station but sold off on Valentine's Day 2022.

Today #WeRemember David Stokoe and Terry Hunt, who lost their lives in the line of duty responding to the Gillender Street warehouse fire in London on 10 July 1991.

The fire was not brought under control for several hours and was attended by more than 25 fire engines. Terry and David became trapped inside the building and ran out of oxygen.

#WeRemember Derek T Potts who lost his life in the line of duty on the 26th June 1983.

Derek ‘Ginger’ Potts was 37 years old when he collapsed and died of a heart attack while fighting a blaze at 44 Compton Road, Islington.

Today marks 50 years since the 1975 Moorgate tube crash, in which 43 people died and 74 were injured. Firefighters were called to the scene and created passageways through the wreckage, saving those they could reach.

Today, Steve Wright and other FBU officials attended a memorial for those who died, and paid tribute to the bravery of railway staff, firefighters and others who were present at the incident.

@LondonFire Forgot to mention this used to be Manchester Square fire station until shut in June 2005. Used to have two fire engines based there.
