New data from David Ho's lab showing that while adults & kids have ~equal antibody responses to XFG & NB.1.8.1, children have essentially no neutralizing antibodies to BA.3.2.
This seems to largely solve the BA.3.2 + kids mystery. 1/14
Hey @WIRED, Even @PsychToday is practicing more honest journalism than you by acknowledging that LC isn’t psychosomatic. They report that it is biologically based and a leading biomedical explanation is viral persistence in reservoirs like HIV. https://t.co/tRuMea1R2T
Pediatric Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection in Taiwan: Insights from the DISCOVER Cohort
🚨We’ve called for caution and we’ll do it again!! #OurChildren#Omicron
Even MILD paediatric COVID isn’t harmless.
➡️INTERESTING new Taiwan DISCOVER cohort (n≈500 kids, mean age7.6ys, post-2022 Omicron):
1. High burden of persistent multisystem symptoms:
- Even though acute COVID-19 was predominantly mild, a substantial proportion of children developed post-acute sequelae of SARSCoV2 (PASC/long COVID) lasting >4 weeks,
- The most common symptoms were fatigue, cough, chest pain, and other somatic complaints,
- Neuropsychiatric issues (sleep disturbances, brain fog, anxiety/depression) affected 5–15% of cases, particularly adolescents, and correlated with reduced quality of life,
2. Subclinical organ dysfunction frequently missed by routine tests:
- Impulse oscillometry detected abnormalities in 74.6% of assessed children (mainly small-airway dysfunction in 62.9%), strongly linked to respiratory symptoms,
- ‼️Conventional spirometry was often normal,
- ‼️AI-enhanced echocardiography (ResNet-50 model, 96.6% accuracy) unmasked subtle cardiac changes not visible on standard echo,
3. Immune-driven mechanism:
- Symptom severity tracked with elevated anti-nucleocapsid IgG titers and a low-grade “cytokine simmer” (elevated IL-2, IL-21, MIP-1α) plus T-cell exhaustion markers (PD-1/PD-L1 correlation),
- No evidence for viral persistence,
4. Vaccination modifies disease course:
- ‼️Fully vaccinated children had significantly lower odds of gastrointestinal sequelae (abdominal pain AOR 0.49; diarrhoea AOR 0.37) and better-preserved pulmonary function (improved impulse-oscillometry parameters),
5. Vitamin D supplementation may show early promise:
- A small single-center RCT (n=33) found 2,000 IU/day for 6 months significantly reduced overall symptom burden (CSSI-24 score), lowered pro-inflammatory cytokines, and favourably altered immune checkpoints and the microbiome, especially in children with vitamin D deficiency plus VDR risk genotypes,
6. Additional risks identified:
-Older age and greater acute-infection severity predicted worse PASC,
- ‼️The cohort also showed an elevated hazard of new-onset allergic diseases (asthma, rhinitis, dermatitis) post-infection.
‼️So, AGAIN, even mild pediatric SARS-CoV-2 infections can trigger long-lasting multisystem damage and impaired quality of life. Persistent symptoms in children must never be dismissed as “just recovery/getting over it” but need prompt specialist evaluation and intervention!
Dammm it….protect our children and don’t relax after at first sight “normal” tests!

Check out these talk summaries from our recent PolyBio Symposium👇
Highlights include that four groups — Tim Henrich (UCSF), Marcus Buggert (Karolinska), Nicolas Huot (Institut Pasteur), and Esen Sefik (Yale) — presented different lines of evidence (human gut biopsies, non-human primate models, humanized mice) all pointing to the same conclusion: SARS-CoV-2 persists in #LongCovid gut tissue and adjacent lymphoid structures, and that persistence drives ongoing immune dysregulation.

Our long-range sanctions carried out by the warriors of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine have yielded good results. Important facilities on Russian territory were hit last night.
Among them was the Petersburg Oil Terminal. The distance from Ukraine’s state border to this facility of Russia’s oil industry, which serves the war, is about 1,100 kilometers. Purely military targets at the Kronstadt base were also hit.
Another target was an enterprise in the Tambov region involved in the production of Russian weapons. The distance from the frontline is almost 600 kilometers.
I thank our warriors for their precision. Ukraine’s plan for long-range sanctions is being implemented exactly as needed to bring peace closer. Glory to Ukraine!
Strong public health signal that Covid promotes cancer either through flare-ups of the HPV virus, or a suppressed ability to fight cancer.
3 million patients. I reckon some in the control group had had Covid too, which would boost the signal even more.

140 police officers were injured on January 6. Last week, the Trump Administration deleted the government’s own prosecution records documenting what happened to them and called those records “partisan propaganda.”
Those records documented rioters who drove stun guns into the necks of Capitol Police officers, dragged officers into the mob, and beat officers with flagpoles. They documented guilty pleas, jury verdicts, and sentences of seven, ten, and twelve years.
Trump pardoned every one of them. Now he’s trying to erase the record of what they did from the history books.

The driving principle for PPE use should be the precautionary principle when case fatality is astronomically high, and no drugs or vaccines are available, as we argued during the 2014 West African Ebola epidemic, the worst in history. This should override "evidence reviews" for poorly studied diseases that occur sporadically. https://t.co/vFtMO3sYul
@BarryHunt008 It's frightening how healthcare facilities lack a culture of safety. They're unwilling to revisit assumptions and apply new evidence. They don't target appropriate safety metrics. There's minimal systems thinking in designing for safety.
