Today in the @nytimes@thecfhk have focused on the women and girls jailed without trial under the #NationalSecurityLaw. Keeping the spotlight on Beijing's abuse of the law.
Independent news outlets in Hong Kong are closing down one by one. The government is abusing a draconian colonial law that has not been used for more than FIVE decades to prosecute journalists. Please support press freedom in Hong Kong.

Citizen News, another prominent pro-democracy online media in HK, has announced their closure just days after #HK police raided Stand News, arrested 7 and charged 2 of them with publishing seditious contents.
Another one bites the dust. Starting to think Blinken, Truss etc will continue issuing action-free statements about how “China needs to respect media freedom” until there are no real journalists left in #HongKong
We announced with a heavy heart that CitizenNews will cease operation starting from Jan 4 (Tue).
To our subscribers and readers, we sincerely thank you for your support. We shall always treasure this incredible journey in the past five years.

In 2021, Hong Kong lost at least 59 media / NGO / civic organisations, who dared to voice their support for freedom and democracy. Many were forced to disband due to the National Security Law 🇨🇳.
Here’s to 2022…

Senator Rubio condemns the closure of #StandNews and the arrest of prominent pro-democracy activists, including @hoccgoomusic.
This is another #CCP assault on freedom in #HongKong.
Canadian Denise Ho was arrested in Hong Kong for supporting an independent, free press.
Her arrest, among 6, violates the 1984 Sino-British treaty.
We can’t continue to turn a blind eye to Beijing’s egregious violations of international law.

Canada will always stand up to support democracy and freedom of the press. We are deeply concerned by the arrests in Hong Kong of current and former board and staff members from Stand News, including Canadian citizen and activist Denise Ho.
THREAD:
1.After the Apple Daily closure, Stand News became the largest free media in Hong Kong. Today, we have witnessed another forced closure with a number of arrests. The message Beijing sends is clear: report in the way that we allow, or end up in jail.
