Residential outdoor centres are vital educational resources that have been closed since March 2020. Our sector needs govt support to survive. #SaveOutdoorEd
We're looking forward to this week's #ukfechat - Saving Outdoor Education with @ChrisAFRIN
With closures of outdoor centres and rapid dilution of adventure activities, how will #FE carry the torch to bring adventure opportunities to disadvantaged students?
@mikerraine @IOLOutdoorProfs@AHOECUK@outdoorcouncil_ No doubt change is needed, and not enough has been done historically to raise the profile of ode with gov. Really important discussion to have atm. Representation of such a diverse sector w/ different needs and challenges is difficult, interested to hear people's point of view.
Good question @mikerraine, looking at a really sad reality.
"Outdoor Education has to regroup, join together for a common purpose, present a united front and work hard, very hard, to demonstrate how we are part of the answer, not the problem."
There is a lot of work to be done.
It's really important that we all engage in this process of changing sector bodies - what do YOU want from our representative bodies?

🎉On Monday - after 18 perilous months we're so excited to be welcoming back our first city children for a week of mud and magic on our farms. 🎉
Heartfelt thanks to EVERYONE who has supported us to make this happen - great adventures & lifetime memories are about to be made.🙏💚
@CranedaleCentre And thank you to all at Cranedale for all your help throughout the campaign! Brilliant news that residentials are back for you guys, enjoy! 🎉🥳
Andrew Hutchings, headteacher at Parkgate Primary School in Neston, Cheshire, has told us that outdoor learning is vital for children to reconnect with their local surroundings https://t.co/blqcoOMsrX
We are really excited to let you know that we have been shortlisted for Campaign of the Year. We'd love it if you could help us win a Scottish Charity Award. All you have to do is vote! https://t.co/jA4Uq0mFS9 #ScotCharityAwards
Centres in North Wales and across the country have been v successfully run post-council. The huge benefit of this is the continued relationships w schools & benefit to those children. @Warwickshire_CC will let down the children of Warwickshire without properly considering this.
It’s disappointing that @Warwickshire_CC are closing @savemarlehall and didn’t explore the business case/ lease proposal put forward further. It was based on our successful ‘not for profit’ Arete model which has shown how an outcome can work positively for both LA and communities
Heartbreaking…. More heart stopping!
What is left for children in Warwickshire?
Marle Hall outdoor centre closure 'heartbreaking' https://t.co/AEeMdkTikD
So short sighted. Shame on you @Warwickshire_CC. When are those in charge of education in this country going to realise that #outdoorEd is not a 'nice to have', it's an essential part of developing strong, happy, resilient young people. #ThereIsMoreToEducationThanSchool
How many children from the most deprived backgrounds in #Warwickshire will now miss out on these life changing experiences? How many from communities under-represented in those other outdoor centres? I'd like to see the #equalityimpactassessment@Warwickshire_CC. #Saveoutdoored
From water level to mountain top, Snowdonia is a magnet for thrill-seekers🗻 But places like @aretecentre haven't been able to operate for much of the pandemic, leaving many children without their first taste of adventure.
Coast & Country - 8:30pm Thursday 5th - @ITVCymruWales
Residential Outdoor Education is still at risk across the country, we must do everything we can to advocate its benefits and #SaveOutdoorEd for our young people.
This is a dreadful decision by @Warwickshire_CC after your constituents voiced such support for the centre. The closure of Marle Hall will have a hugely detrimental effect on the young people of Warwickshire, at a time when the need is great. Shame on you Warwickshire Council.
Wales' slate landscape wins World Heritage status but how much longer will Warwickshire children have opportunities to explore this UNESCO world heritage site firsthand.
