Accord DayCentre for learning disabilities- closed by @GlasgowCC for Commonwealth Games Bus Park. We are fighting for LD Day Centres to be modernised not closed
@CllrTKerr @SNPdavid We would also hope @glasgowgreens and @MarthaWardrop@patrickharvie will continue to support the replacement of the Accord Centre for adults with learning disabilities. We need to ensure this is part of the Glasgow budget and we are not forgotten.
@CllrTKerr @SNPdavid Thank you, will be in touch. We are just delighted to see more people who can deliver a new Accord centre on our side. It’s been to long. We now believe it’s within touching distance.
@CllrTKerr we don’t have your contact details but we are really delighted to see you backing what we have all been fighting for, for so long. We’ve emailed @SNPdavid (no reply yet) but could you send us your contact details to arrange a cross-party meeting with us?
@SNPdavid @CllrTKerr @PeterAdamSmith@GlasgowTories@SNPforGlasgow @snpdavid and many of your SNP colleagues supported the Save The Accord Campaign at the time, since the closure you have gained power in @GlasgowCC and now have the ability to replace the centre which you once campaigned for.
Honoured speak at #GlaBudget & fight the East Ends corner. Our budget includes:
✔️Pedestrian Crossing for Mount Vernon
✔️New Accord Centre
✔️Town Regeneration Fund
✔️Investment for roads & parks
✔️Plus a council tax freeze
@GlasgowTories fighting for Shettleston.
@SNPdavid @CllrTKerr @PeterAdamSmith@GlasgowTories@SNPforGlasgow We would welcome discussions to develop a replacement Accord Day Centre for people with learning disabilities and there families in East Glasgow. 120 people with LD and there families were affected by the closure in 2014 due to Commonwealth Games #savetheaccord
Update: Glasgow’s Conservative Group will propose a brand new Accord Centre for the East End communities in the city’s budget this afternoon. They recognise “the need for the services the Accord Centre provided & the absolute obligation on this Council to rebuild” @savetheaccord
@JohnMasonMSP @PeterAdamSmith Twitter is not the right forum to discuss detail. However, you know from campaigning that we are on the same page. The S Lanarkshire Model can work if taken seriously. I believe Scot Gov commissioned a Feasability Study on Tollcross. Let’s look at the potential there?
@alisonthewliss@WingsScotland@PeterAdamSmith@rb2003 @SNPdavid @NicolaSturgeon That’s brilliant, Alison! You’ve gone on to such great things in Westminster and your expertise in campaigning is invaluable to us. Can you help us get all the influential people within your party onside with us to deliver a new Accord?
@JohnMasonMSP @PeterAdamSmith We kind of hoped the ‘legacy’ of 2014 had a slightly longer lifespan for the east end! The S Lan model is a dedicated day centre area within a leisure facility & there are far better options. But the detail can be discussed if we can get all willing people onside to deliver it :)
@JohnMasonMSP @PeterAdamSmith Thanks for the reply. As always it is appreciated John. Can you help us to get all relevant heads together so we can finally get the ball rolling on this? You know more than most, how much a 2014 legacy would mean to carers and LD community in East End.
@WingsScotland@PeterAdamSmith@rb2003 @SNPdavid @NicolaSturgeon At the time, there was little we could do when Labour decided to knock the Accord down for a Games bus park. But we really had amazing support from so many people - and we hope they’ll work with us now they’re in a position to deliver a replacement centre. People like @SNPdavid
@WingsScotland@PeterAdamSmith@rb2003 @SNPdavid @NicolaSturgeon The TL;DR version: First Minister Alex Salmond told carers he would take their case to Glasgow City Council, saying, “There’s a cause and a reason for redeeming the commitment to a like-for-like centre.”
@WingsScotland@PeterAdamSmith@rb2003 @SNPdavid @NicolaSturgeon And this - money for ‘legacy’ was withheld as Scot Gov wasn’t convinced by GCC plans for our replacement centre. Alex Salmond wrote to us personally after we visited other centres in S Lanarkshire on a mission to get ideas for our new centre. https://t.co/bPItH0wrYC
