Rickard is charitable, referring to the practice in the abstract. It makes sense to do this, the purpose of the article is to demonstrate why this FFO variant is bad on principle. It's not hypothetical though: A sizable minority of Presbyterian churches are already doing this.

Also, just so everyone is aware, several churches Jeffery Choi has held a leadership in did not wait for an BCO amendment or a "careful and charitable conversation" like this to pass in order to install deaconesses/female deacons. They have already done so. ⬇️
