Just made another scene commentary video, this time featuring our interview with Writer, Director, Producer of 'Basil,' Radha Bharadwaj. She is 1 of only 2 directors in history to receive an R-rating solely for an Abortion scene. Tune in here👇

Today is my birthday! Here is a thread of my movies -- trailers, then a link to watch for free. Please check them out... it's all I want for my birthday.
FAILED STATE
THE SANDMAN IS COMING FOR YOUR EYES! E.T.A. Hoffmann's terrifying story of "The Sandman" (1816) is evoked with unnerving menace by Stanislav Sokolov’s stop-motion puppet animation feature, HOFFMANIADA.
Deluxe edition copies still available, but supplies are getting low!

@DominicHailsto1 This fell out during the 80s after Charles Band put out a vhs w an R cert for 'I Spit on Your Grave' which actually had the UR cut. Meir Zarchi got sued into oblivion for copyright infringement and now nobody puts it on there unless they actually have it.
Most of this isn't true. TCM was not 'Supposed to be' PG, its just what Hooper shot for and it had nothing to do w Spielberg hiring him later.
Additionally, Poultergeist got an R at 1st due to 'Terror induced by the soundtrack' because it utilized the then new Dolby Digital
Fun fact. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was supposed to be PG (hence the lack of gore). It's one of the reasons Spielberg hired Hooper for Poltergeist. PG also.
Poltergeist originally got an R for the bathroom face peeling scene, which was trimmed. The extra gore later turned up in the TV version oddly enough.
@DominicHailsto1 Joe said in the 70s it was very common practice to just put whatever rating you wanted on a poster or a trailer, just as a proof of concept for distributors. He edited for Corman and they would cut the R cert from one film and slapped it on another.
@DominicHailsto1 My interview with Joe Dante provided the backbone for Parts 1 and 2 of my Mini-Docs 'How Horror Created the PG-13' which can be viewed here and also feature director Luca Bercovici and Producer Charles Band of Ghoulies

@DominicHailsto1 Richard Heffner's oral history and notes are available for viewing at Rutgers and Columbia University. Stephen Vaughn used those notes for his book 'Freedom and Entertainment: Rating The Movies in the Age of New Media' which is how we know their exact thoughts about Poltergeist.
@DominicHailsto1 You used the wrong word and I clarified. My information comes directly from Richard Hefner's MPA archival notes and my interview with director Joe Dante who was friends w Tobe Hooper for 20+ yrs and was put in a similar position by Spielberg only a yr later.
@UpdateTheGrids I've been doing Sights Obscene for 3 yrs now and it's practically impossible to promote even with thousands of followers across multiple platforms and legitimate interviews. We've fought for every view we've had and some we only got traction after articles were written.
@DominicHailsto1 As in he thought personally it would get a PG, not that he received a mandate from a studio requiring it. Everything else you said is still wrong man. Censorship history is my entire area of expertise and listing unsubstantiated IMDB trivia as a 'Fun Fact' warps reality
This is also as good a time as any to show off the exceptionally rare promo that was drafted w an R rating. It sold a few yrs back to another private collector. Hooper tried to buy it but the og collector declined and had him sign it.
Learn your herstory dahlings! Sebastiane was first shown in porno theaters. There’s a very tight connection between the gay avant garde and pornography. Mainly due to its alternative forms of distribution.
