It’s incredibly tough to process that Sir Garry is gone. I’ve been looking back at the memories we shared over the years, from him handing me the Player of the Tournament trophy at the 2003 World Cup, to his warm words when he felicitated me for the century milestone. He was always so exceptionally gracious.
My mind keeps going back to when we caught up in London a few years ago. We were just sitting and chatting about the game, and it hits me so hard right now that it was the last time we’d ever meet.
He truly was the ‘One and Only’. Going to miss him immensely. Rest in peace, Sir Garry.
A legend in name , performance and a legend of a human . Rest easy Sir Garfield Sobers 🕊️
Thank you for all you’ve done for West Indies cricket. Your legacy will live on 🙏🏾
Thank you to The Right Excellent Robyn Rihanna Fenty, National Hero of Barbados, for this beautiful tribute to our beloved Sir Garry. It is deeply moving to hear one National Hero honour another, and I will always treasure having introduced the two of you. In this moment of farewell, Barbados is especially mindful of the blessing of a National Hero still among us.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is saddened by the passing of cricket legend Sir Garfield Sobers.
It was a privilege to welcome Sir Garfield to Pakistan during the West Indies' tour in 1959, where his brilliance graced our shores and his illustrious career left a lasting impression on the cricketing fraternity.
We extend our sincere condolences to @windiescricket, the Caribbean cricket community, his family and loved ones.
It is with profound sadness that I join Barbados, the Caribbean and the cricketing world in mourning the passing of The Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers, our Sir Garry.
From Bay Land to Kensington and onto the world stage, he carried Barbados and the West Indies with distinction. He made us all stand a little taller as Barbadians, and I will always be grateful for what he gave to our country and our people.
I extend my deepest condolences to his family and all who loved him.
Today has been declared a Day of National Mourning. Flags will be flown at half-mast, no official functions will take place, and details of the State Funeral will be announced.
Barbados stands. The West Indies stand. The world stands.
Well played, Sir Garry. Well played.
In 2026, I cannot believe we are being asked to respond to the suggestion that the descendants of the enslaved should pay for the machinery that oppressed them.
The Caribbean does not owe Britain for slavery, for colonial extraction, or for laws that treated African people as chattel. We are not asking for charity. We are asking for justice, and history itself has already told the truth.
Those who wish to speak on this matter should first take the time to read enough history to understand it. The Caribbean will not be used as a prop for anyone’s politics. We know who we are, we know what was done, and we will continue to speak for repair with clarity and dignity.
What a disgrace! Racism is not a joke, a personality trait, or an excuse rooted in ‘where I come from.’ It’s a violation of basic human dignity, full stop. Public figures, especially elected officials, have a heightened responsibility to reject hatred, not rationalize it. Kylian Mbappé deserves an apology, and so does everyone who has been targeted by this kind of language. Human dignity for all is not a slogan. It’s a commitment. #France #Paraguay
The racist, dehumanising remarks against @KMbappe by Paraguayan Sen. Celeste Amarilla are despicable, regrettably not isolated.
States & sports organisations must prevent acts of racism & discrimination, and ensure independent and effective accountability. Social media must also prevent and address racial discrimination on their platforms.

End of list.
Metro Times endorses Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate.
Michigan Democrats have spent too many elections being told the safest choice is the right one. This year, the safest choice is the candidate who gives people something to vote for.
