These two papers are the culmination of four years of hard work during my PhD. I am so happy to finally see them published. Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way!!
Interested in the effects of cannabis vapor exposure to rats on stress reactivity and fear learning? Two new back to back papers from the lab, both lead by @savvlightfoot, were just published in the last few weeks.

Dedicated federal funding from @CIHR_IRSC to support psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy trials has allowed our @pact_lab team to explore innovative approaches to substance use disorder treatment ⤵️

So cool to see what @NeuroCarleton alumni do along their career path. Also cool to see the amazing science that is done in 🇨🇦 by world class scientists and mentors. Congrats to the @HotchkissBrain !
The second paper examined the effects of cannabis vapor on fear learning. The big finding here was that acute cannabis exposure right before fear learning resulted in long term destabilization of the fear memory---maybe interesting in context of PTSD

The first paper examined the effects of acute and chronic cannabis vapor exposure on stress reactivity and found that acute exposure can both activate the HPA axis and amplify the effects of stress, while chronic exposure actually blunts stress responses

Congrats to @s_baglot on a great PhD defence! Thanks to @AnneZMurphy for making the trip up to be her examiner and her committee @drstephieb @KurraschLab and examiner Gerry Giesbrecht.
Very sad to see Sam go but excited for what she’ll do next with @zivacooper and @PainlabQ
*New lab paper drop today in @npp_journal*
Using FOS mapping and fiber photometry, we identified the medial division of the basal amygdala as a highly stress responsive subregion of the BLA

From someone who has studied this field for over 2 decades, I can comfortably say that virtually everything said here is inaccurate. It is incredibly disturbing to me that someone claiming to be a scientist can talk with such authority on something they clearly know nothing about
(1/4) Our work characterising the effects of prenatal THC vapour exposure on body weight, glucose metabolism & feeding patterns was published today in @IntJObesity ✨@s_baglot@Lucia_Jav@savvlightfoot@canna_brain

An amazing inaugural scientific retreat with the stress, pain and addiction group from @HotchkissBrain and the @NAPECenter from University of Washington in the Rocky Mountains. Great science, good company and lots of bridges built. Excited for this collaboration to grow!
First Hill lab and @MayoOnTheBrain lab joint team building event. It started with boldering (photos not shown for posterity) and ended with a pizza making class.
My lab is looking to hire a postdoc to work on amygdala and stress projects, with a focus on endocannabinoids.
This project would incorporate a range of techniques/approaches and my lab is nested in a great research environment.
