A little birdy just tweeted that it's World Parrot Day everybody! One way you can celebrate and help conserve these beautiful birds is by being a smart shopper and looking for Rainforest Safe products!
@BrushMarisol This was super interesting and scary to me too. It makes sense since they are all a business, but it was weird to see how they purposely track if you haven't opened the app in a while, and to send a notification for you to open it. #eme4390m2023
@NikoleSBordones 100%! I agree with you because there are a lot of good things that social media and technology have given us, but this class and documentary has made me question whether the bad will start to outweigh the good. #eme4390m2023
I think society should really be worried where we are headed in terms of technology. Even I "know" this and is aware of what is happening, but I haven't changed my lifestyle and how much I use my phone. I am dependent on it for work, school and talking to parents. #eme4390m2023
to expand on this, right after they talk about teens and pre teen girls who self harm themselves. The rates have drastically gone up since 2010, and it is really sad to hear how much social media has an effect on this. #eme4390m2023
When we talked about social media affecting mental health, that gets brought up in the documentary when they are speaking about how we pay so much attention to likes and comments. We are so concerned what other people think about us #eme4390m2023
The way that using our phones and apps are just embedded into our lifestyles is crazy. It was super interesting how the people who worked for these tech companies know all the "secrets" and how the business works, and they still are doing the same habits. #eme4390m2023
@tenieber yes, you worded it perfectly! It’s freaky to think that “we are the product” and that every move we make and every time we react to a notification, we’re just feeding into that business. #eme4390m2023
I figured someone was tracking us through our phones, but I didn't realize that all these apps are tracking what posts/pictures we look at and exactly how long we look at them for. Kind of creepy.. #eme4390m2023
I find it intriguing that the people being interviewed in #TheSocialDilemma all were very concerned about what the future held, and how powerful these companies are. #eme4390m2023
In the lecture video from Howard Gardner, he made a good point about if people are afraid to take risks, they are going to be more app dependent. I didn't think about it like this but it is true, because using apps is comfortable. #eme4390m2023 https://t.co/52TLE054AE
This quote from the Seattle Times gave me an interesting perspective on how we are dependent on our phones. It is true that sometimes we wouldn't experience those emotions if we are too dependent on these devices. #eme4390m2023
"They have not experienced the pleasure of wandering while lost and
discovering by serendipity interesting new places. Nor have they found the
empowerment that occurs when one finds the way back home" (Gardner, Davis, 2014) #eme4390m2023 Seattle Times
This part in the New York Times article called "Your Apps Know Where You Were Last Night, and They’re Not Keeping It Secret" surprised me a lot, and this was in 2018 so I cant imagine what tracking is going on now. #eme4390m2023
"It recorded her whereabouts
as often as every two seconds, according to a database of more than a million phones in the New York area that was reviewed by
The New York Times." (Jennifer Valentino-DeVries, Natasha Singer, et al., 2018) New York Times article.
