#WATCH | Kathmandu, Nepal: On Nepal's reported climate-related compensation demand, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, Shisir Khanal, says, "Neither I nor anyone in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Government of Nepal has claimed or asked for compensation from India or any other country, including China or the United States. Our call has been for the global community to look at this disaster from the perspective of climate change and the impact it's having in Nepal. I've also mentioned that all three countries - China, India, and Nepal face and share similar environmental ecosystems. We are all impacted by climate change in the Himalayas as well. Our call is for all these three countries to come together to be better prepared, but also for the global community to support and, particularly, to look at this disaster not just as a one-time event or to look at this as one-time support, but to think about the impact rising temperatures and climate change are having on communities across the world. It is our call for the global community to come together and support smaller nations like Nepal..."

Chilime Hydropower – 29 August 2026
This morning, upon the request of Chilime Hydropower, a technical Search & Rescue team from the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association (NNMGA) was deployed to the affected tunnel area with helicopter support from Simrik Air.
Initially, the operation was planned as a Long-Line Rescue/Access operation, as heavy mud around the tunnel area was expected to make helicopter landing difficult. Our team was therefore prepared to establish technical anchors and access the site by long-line if required.
However, the mud around the area had dried enough for the helicopter to land near the tunnel entrance, allowing our team to access the site directly.
Approximately one hour after our team arrived, personnel from the Nepal Army also reached the location. Together, the teams surveyed and assessed the situation.
Following the assessment, our mountain guides entered the tunnel to conduct a technical search. The team proceeded approximately 120 metres inside the tunnel. During the search, the team also found one camera bag.
At approximately 120 metres, further access was completely blocked by a large accumulation of thick mud (sludge) and debris. After assessing the situation, it was determined that further progress could not be made effectively using human resources alone.
To continue the search deeper into the tunnel, excavation machinery and appropriate pumping equipment will be required to remove the accumulated mud and clear the tunnel.
After completing today's search and technical assessment, our team is now returning to Kathmandu.
