#Wulei the actor who plays the young Xi Zhongxun also put a great deal of preparation. Upon arriving in Shaanxi, he and the filming team visited sites such as the Martyrs Ceremonial Park in Fuping, Licheng Middle School, Zhaojin Memory Hall, Chenjiapo’s old conference site and Xuejiazai.

Wulei said that being in these real settings unconsciously brought him a sense of calm. The tables and chairs from the cave dwellings, the tukangs (beds) transported him back to that era. “Xi Zhongxun who came from the masses understood even better the struggles of the common people. Even though he was very young when he joined the revolutionary cause, his comrades saw him as sharp and rational, courageous and bold” Wulei said, that’s what he wanted to say to the audience.
