@ghazaliyannas If she wants to represent her culture then she needs to be aware of the cultural climate within it or she will be criticised. And yes she's privileged as diaspora lol. Im not bitter, she put her music out tgere, its natural she'll be criticised.
@ghazaliyannas The tweet above it points out that the problem is the whole prisoner seductress narrative of the mv, given how many palestinian women are kidnapped and held in jail and sexually assaulted there. That maybe its out of touch and innapropriate. And the problem isnt that she's -
i cannot get over how awful this is. what are you, as a palestinian woman, doing singing "give me a kiss", while playing the role of a woman in captivity flirting with her jailors? what message is this sending? what are you trying to romanticise ya allah
@ghazaliyannas Idc what she said because the prison flirting with guards set up is tone deaf enough. She is a priviledged diaspora who will never have to face the horrors of prison as a woman in the middle east.
@bippty exactly. they profit from being seen as "exotic" without having to go through the struggles their people do and this is what comes out of it. the arabs who double down on their politics never make it big though.
i stay off Instagram the most because i see people i graduated high school or college with living in NYC or having gorgeous weddings or traveling out of the country, meanwhile i work two jobs and live with my mom and sister, untangling my life’s shit.
