LLMs are massive cheating machines.

All the intelligence comes from the millions of intelligent human beings that wrote the texts that LLM practitioners scrape from the internet.

There is no new science of intelligence in LLMs. Linguists have known for a long time that language is highly statistical.

"You shall know a word by the company it keeps." ~ John Firth in 1957

LLMs only appear to be intelligent. They're faking it by computing the stats of word embeddings. Intelligence doesn't come from the stats. It's the other way around. Is it any wonder that LLMs fail at simple logic problems that lie outside their training data? No, because that's what cheating is all about.
