Many barriers exist already in accessing abortion. Adding to them is the mandatory reporting aspect of the POCSO Act, 2012. The law mandates anyone having information about sexual activity among minors to report it. 1/3

While this breaks silence around sexual abuse, it also mandates doctors, to whom minors come seeking pregnancy, to report about it. It also leads to delayed treatment, as care providers deny treatment in fear of prosecution. 2/3
