The UAE is giving 10 million dollars in aid to Nepal after the devastating floods and landslides that affected so many people.

What really stood out to me is that Nepal produces less than 0.1% of global carbon emissions, but its people are still dealing with the consequences of a changing climate.

Regardless of where you stand on climate change, when people lose their homes, their livelihoods, and their families, you help.

And honestly, this is one of the things that makes me proud to be Emirati. We see people in need, and we step up.

Nepal is a much smaller country than Pakistan and it does not have the same money or machines, that is just a fact. But look at these two pictures from the last two days. In flood-hit Rasuwa a Nepal Army helicopter hangs so low over a building sitting in the middle of the river that one soldier can lean out, grab a boy waving his T-shirt from the roof, and pull him in. They did the same for twin children. One life. They went that far. Meanwhile in Islamabad, at PIMS, a spark in the nursery and the oxygen in the incubators did the rest. Fourteen newborns, some only hours old, burned or choked before anyone got the doors open. Families sat on the road for hours. A secretary got suspended, an inquiry started, and then the noise faded. Resources were never the real difference. Priority was. A government that will risk a helicopter for one child is telling you what it thinks a life is worth. Asking why that did not happen here is not politics. It is the least a citizen can do.

What made Shreyas Iyer’s catch so special was not just the athleticism, but the awareness behind it.

He had to judge the speed of the ball, the height, where the boundary rope was, how close he was to stepping on it, and get his jump absolutely perfect.

Then, while still in the air, he caught the ball and released it to a teammate before landing, all the while knowing exactly where that fielder was positioned.

To process all of that in a split second takes unbelievable awareness, timing, fitness, and composure.
