If you believe that years in a classroom equals actual intelligence... I just want to talk. But also, you likely have all of the former and none of the latter. #isaidwhatisaid#supportthetrades
@JRM_USA@myrontmoore And I would like to make it clear that my information comes from both personal experience and industry professionals that actually work around these cattle. So while I’m sure you’ve heard a thing or two, I’ve done a thing or two. My facts hold up just fine ☺️
@JRM_USA@myrontmoore …local. Likewise, a person from Florida would be more likely to freeze in a North Dakota winter storm than a NoDak native. It is the same thing for livestock.
@JRM_USA@myrontmoore …feedlots specifically. If that’s too hard to grasp, think of it in terms of people. Someone from Colorado would be used to fairly moderate temperatures and low levels of humidity. So in south Texas, this person would probably be more likely to experience heat stress than a…
@cat_reet You are absolutely free to be vegan and follow that lifestyle, I respect that choice. I work hard to provide the best care for livestock that eventually nourish millions of people.
@lekroko @myrontmoore Of course the government has lied. But that doesn’t mean that following an opposing narrative is better by default. That line of thinking does just as much damage.
@cat_reet @myrontmoore Definitely not the point. I’m a 3rd generation livestock producer, aspiring feedlot nutritionist, and proud meat eater. In the US, we have the most stable and safe food supply of anywhere in the world. As producers, some things are unfortunately out of our control.
@lekroko @myrontmoore I guess I’m confused by your response, as to whether you are saying the government lies or that I lie. Either way, my point was that this is not a narrative or a conspiracy. This is reality.
@myrontmoore You can clearly see two men in skid loaders moving deads into rows, likely for simplicity of disposal. Additionally, the argument that cattle handle this heat all the time is not really relevant. Different breeds handle heat better than others, and diet plays a big role.
@myrontmoore …heat stress deaths. This isn’t the “conspiracy theory” we should be concerned about right now (lord knows there’s enough real stuff going on). At this point, I’m just praying the weather breaks and offers up some 80 degree days that will give the ranchers and cattle a break.
@myrontmoore Feedlot cattle are on a high grain ration to put on fat. This fat serves as an insulator, making it harder for them to dispel heat. A 2% death loss in a 60,000 head yard is still 1200 head of cattle. While devastating and unfortunate, it is very possible these were all…
