Ce matin, nos députés Alex Boissonneault, porte-parole en matière de Relations canadiennes, et Pascal Paradis, porte-parole en matière d’Énergie, signent ensemble une lettre ouverte qui réaffirme qu’un gouvernement du Parti Québécois travaillera à réparer l’injustice concernant la frontière avec le Labrador. Un tracé officiel que le Québec n'a jamais reconnu.

Plus tôt cette semaine, le premier ministre de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador, Tony Wakeham, a vertement critiqué un passage du Livre bleu où le Parti Québécois affirme que l'indépendance du Québec permettra de réparer cette injustice dans le cadre de la négociation globale avec le Canada. Une injustice largement mise de côté durant 8 ans de caquisme.

Cette lettre est l’occasion de rappeler que le gouvernement Legault/Fréchette n’a cessé de faire le dos rond pendant 8 ans et n’a pas cru bon de rappeler ce différend historique entre le Québec et Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador lors de la signature du protocole d’entente sur la centrale de Churchill Falls. Le Parti Québécois rappelle qu’il sera toujours là pour défendre les intérêts des Québécois avant tout.

That’s not how it works. Neither NASA nor DoD automatically award contracts based on how much private capital a company raises. Programs like Sbir fund R&D through competitive processes tied to government needs, not fundraising milestones.

As Canadians gather to celebrate Canada Day, we also pause to remember that July 1 is Memorial Day in Newfoundland and Labrador.

On this day, we honour the sacrifice of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont-Hamel in 1916. In less than an hour of fighting on the opening day of the Battle of the Somme, hundreds of Newfoundlanders became casualties, leaving a profound impact on communities across Newfoundland and Labrador that is still felt today.

This remembrance carries even greater meaning following the return home of the Unknown Newfoundland Soldier. In 2024, an unknown First World War soldier from Newfoundland was repatriated from France and laid to rest at the Newfoundland National War Memorial in St. John's, creating a lasting place of remembrance for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who never came home and those with no known grave. The initiative was led by The Royal Canadian Legion's Newfoundland and Labrador Command.

As we celebrate Canada today, let us also remember those who served, sacrificed, and gave their lives in the pursuit of peace and freedom.
