#TheChoralSociety will be performing one of the most-beloved choral compositions produced in the 20th Century, French composer Maurice Duruflé's “Requiem, at At First Presbyterian Church Santa Barbara, March 12-13. Tickets on sale soon. #choralmusic
Our next performances will feature the work of two composers – Maurice Duruflé and Ralph Vaughan Williams – hence the title "Pax+Amare" (Peace+Love).
Over the next couple of weeks we will take a closer look at the men behind the music, so make sure to follow us.
We look forward to welcoming you to our performances this weekend. Please remember to bring your proof of vaccination (and mask). No tickets will be available on the door – both performances are sold out! Thank you!

When #Handel’s ‘#Messiah' was first performed in 1742 it was oversubscribed so women were asked to remove their skirt hoops and men their swords to make more room for the patrons. Rest assured, you will not be asked to remove any clothing for our performances on Dec. 18 & 19.

Handel wept & claimed to see visions of angels while he composed the Hallelujah Chorus of The Messiah. Was he religious ? We don't know, but we do know that the compositional process moved him deeply. Hear us perform Handel's Messiah Dec.18&19. Tickets at https://t.co/LubOdotdbG
Interesting fact: Handel wrote Messiah for a fairly small ensemble – maybe 20 musicians and 15 singers. It was the Victorians in the late 19th c. who filled the Crystal Palace with 1000s of singers and 100s of musicians, making for a long evening.
