Agreed. I like C/C++ and prefer driving a manual transmission car.
But nothing against folks who code in Rust or drive automatics or even Full Self Driving.
My take on Rust is similar to my take on manual cars.
I don't have a major problem with people who drive automatics, I may throw in a snarky comment or two but in the end, I realize the benefits and you do you.
I just like the control, and the thought in the back of my mind that I absolutely can make shit hit the fan if I do something wrong. Makes me more focused and feel a bit free-er.
Personal preference, and also familiarity.
I don't mind software being written in rust, though I don't like compiling rust. To be fair I don't like compiling anything because it's just a slow and boring process.
This made me think back to when I'd joke with my late wife that in winter I change to my Greek name: Papa Grababagopellets.
I'd get home from work, get inside, barely drop off my work bag, and hear: "Papa, Grab a Bag of Pellets". ie. wood pellets for the wood stove to burn overnight.
It's not "Papadopoulos", but ... 😏
M did *love* that wood stove. I'd say it's how you get a Cali girl to adjust to NH winters. Whenever she'd feel chilly, briefly stand about a foot in front of it, and the chill is gone.
Yes, a weird memory to have when NH was hitting 90°F/32°C today. I'm more grateful for the vapor-compression refrigeration cycle used in A/C's and heat pumps.
What I'm wondering is what the token cost will be when it's not subsidized by early investors to attract customers?
Recall early Uber. Calling an Uber was significantly cheaper than a cab. Over time now, Uber is often NOT a bargain.
I'm currently paying $20/month for some "Pro" licenses, but when things become more API / Token based pricing and the pricing becomes "real" not subsidized, will AI -- at the current levels -- be as attractive?
Imagine that I have a new petroleum distillate that is $1.50/gallon (as far as you know) and gives you 50mpg.
Then after IPO I say, "actually it's $20/gallon".
Luckily physical token costs keep dropping due to clever engineering, so ... we'll see.
I've been saying this for years. Looking back at it like we do lobotomies, using leeches, etc.
Or ... as the snarky part of my brain says ... one-way arrows in grocery store aisles.

No income tax. Low crime. Real freedom. This is what happens when government lives within its means and gets out of the way.
Is there more to do? Absolutely. And we’re here to do our jobs and fight for the future. If you want to keep New Hampshire on the right path, vote Republican. If you want an income tax and erode the New Hampshire way of life, vote Democrat.
While my use of @KagiHQ started with private search and expanded to private AI, one of my favorite features is "Proofread." Whenever you see me post with the spelling or grammar error of a second grader, you know I skipped it. 😏

Again, I'll say: if the service is free, you aren't the customer.
For a majority of folks my age who code, it usually started with interpreted BASIC built into the ROMs of PCs of the late '70s and early '80s. Within one second of powering the computer on, you were at a prompt ready to load or write BASIC.
The nerd in me thinks it would have been cool to boot into Forth. That code would have been much faster. For most folks, though, coding in Forth is like dialoguing with Yoda.
