PRESS RELEASE
NANS SECURES REINSTATEMENT OF ALL SUSPENDED FUOYE STUDENTS; COMR. JAMES ADIO'S CASE SCHEDULED FOR SENATE RESOLUTION ON WEDNESDAY, 24 JUNE 2026
"We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly." — Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
It thrills me to write to you as your President, knowing that we have once again recorded yet another victory. As I have always maintained, our strength lies in our unity and our collective will to pursue our interests regardless of the obstacles before us. As long as our resolve remains firm, I am strongly convinced that our cause is just and our path is right.
I am delighted at this juncture to inform the entirety of Nigerian students that we have secured the reinstatement of students who were suspended by the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) following a high-level strategic engagement with the University Management. Similarly, we have now made significant progress regarding the reinstatement of Comr. James Adio.
It is on record that a few days ago, I addressed the unjust suspension and persecution of Comr. James Adio and two other students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE). I expressed our total resentment of the action and called on the University Management to, as a matter of utmost urgency, reverse its decision. Shortly thereafter, the Vice-Chancellor reached out to keep me abreast of the situation, and we both agreed to find a common ground to resolve the matter amicably.
In furtherance of this development, I constituted a delegation to engage with the University Management forthwith, as I am currently occupied with other pressing national assignments. The NANS delegation, led by the Southwest Zonal Coordinator, Comr. Adeyemo Josiah, alongside the National Head of Administration, Comr. Owolewa Taiwo, and the Joint Campus Council Chairman of Ekiti State, Comr. Ayeni Micheal Oluwaseun, met with the Vice-Chancellor at my directive and successfully secured the reinstatement of the students who were earlier suspended. The students will now be allowed to sit for their examinations alongside their colleagues.
The Vice-Chancellor further assured the delegation that the University's Senate will convene on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, to give Comr. James Adio fair consideration and the necessary support that will serve both the interest of justice and his academic pursuits going forward.
In view of the foregoing, permit me to appreciate the Vice-Chancellor for his fatherly role, swift response, and commitment to prioritizing humanity. The Vice-Chancellor has demonstrated, beyond any iota of doubt, that he is not only an administrator but also a core humanitarian. We are confident that, beyond this moment, we will continue to maintain a cordial and productive relationship that advances the welfare and interests of Nigerian students.
I must also appreciate everyone involved, especially the NANS delegation, for their quality representation, resilience, and solidarity in ensuring that we achieved this objective. Indeed, an injury to one is an injury to all.
As I draw this press release to a close, permit me to reiterate that, as your President, I will continue to deploy every legitimate instrument of diplomacy in advancing the welfare and interests of Nigerian students. However, let me also state emphatically that I will not hesitate to confront tyrants and oppressors head-on whenever they prove unwilling to respond to diplomacy, constructive engagement, and intellectual advocacy.
Thank you.
Yours in service,
Dist. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, GCNS
President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)

Eid Mubarak: No Religion Supports B@nditry Or K+lling — President Tinubu Speaks On Insecurity
President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to embrace love, tolerance, and obedience to the rule of law as Muslims celebrate Eid el Mubarak.
Speaking after the Eid prayers in Lagos, the President said Nigerians must learn important lessons from the season by showing love to one another without discrimination or h@tred.
“We must learn from the lessons of this season and it’s to share love with one another, no discrimination, no h@tred, share love in a way that it would reflect the value of our country,” he said.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of tolerance and obedience to Allah, adding that respect for the rule of law must guide society.
“It is essential that we be tolerant and obedient to the wishes of Allah and the rule of law which must guide our society,” he added.
Reacting to the issue of insecurity in the country, the President condemned b@nditry and the k+lling of innocent people, saying such acts have no place in the teachings of Islam.
“Issue of insecurity, that is the love, obedience of love. No where in the holy teaching that you should engage in b@nditry, k+ll another human being,” Tinubu said.
