🦔AI companies are bulk-buying rare books, scanning them through high-speed machines that cut the spines off, and shredding the originals. A service called ISBNdb facilitates orders of up to a million books and keeps buyers anonymous. Pre-2022 books are premium because they're free of AI-generated text. A federal judge ruled the practice is fair use because eliminating the original means only one copy exists at a time. Anthropic hired the former head of Google Books partnerships to obtain "all the books in the world."
My Take
This got to me. A bookseller told 404 Media that rare books with almost no surviving copies are being fed into this pipeline. Books that survived wars, fires, and centuries of handling are being shredded so an AI can learn to write a better marketing email.
ISBNdb's website literally says "'AI company destroys two million books' is not a headline that generates sympathy," and they still built an entire business around making it happen quietly. They offer NDAs as a feature. They coach clients to call it "digital preservation."
I've covered AI companies scraping the internet, torrenting libraries, and stealing music. This is worse because it's irreversible. You can re-upload a website. You can reprint a bestseller. You can't replace the last three copies of an 18th-century botanical text once someone shreds them for training data. And the judge said it's legal. So it's going to accelerate.
"We shred rare books and offer NDAs so nobody finds out" is a legitimate business model in 2026. What a timeline.

@EcocideLaw@ciel_tweets I 'm glad Stop Ecocide is acknowledging and going after Geoengineering, as in my view as an environmental scientist it is the main cause of ecosystem collapse, however, one caveat that I feel is overlooked here is that geoengineering is not new, it's been going on for over fifty years. Please read my response. Thank you for your great work and please get in touch with CIEL ( Center of International Environmental Law as mentioned in my article response to your article. Thank you Carlita.

Beyond the Computer Simulation Theory-Reality as Nature’s Living Intelligence
While most of humanity is distracted, we stand at a nexus where two rivers of influence surge against one another. On one bank flows the age-old current of domination, its waters stained by manipulated fear, greed and the fragmentation it breeds. On the opposite shore, the vibrant, cohesive pulse of the human spirit awakens from millennia of slumber within the helical spirals of our DNA. An uncoiling of an ancestral code, reactivating frequencies long buried beneath layers of cultural conditioning.

Humans possess a subtle, biological magnetic compass (the “Magnetic Eye”) that once helped us navigate, sense, and co-create with Earth’s living grid — and modern life has dulled it. Reawakening this ability is both personal empowerment and planetary healing.

War Rescue Operations Update with Animals Lebanon — Rescue teams from Animals Lebanon successfully retrieved 16 cats from heavily bombed areas in Lebanon. All 16 cats were safely reunited with their families, while an additional 12 families received assistance with their displaced pets. The organisation’s teams entered high-risk zones affected by intense bombardment to reach animals abandoned during rapid evacuations.
Many families had only minutes to flee their homes. Some managed to take their pets, but others were forced to leave them behind, trapped inside without food, water, or any means of escape. Animals Lebanon reported that its teams remain fully mobilised, receiving new rescue requests hourly. Each case is carefully assessed for urgency and security risks before operations proceed.
How Animals Lebanon Is Helping:
Rescuing animals trapped in affected and high-risk areas
Providing urgent veterinary care to injured animals from war zones
Distributing food and essential supplies for displaced pets
Supplying boarding cages so cats can remain safely with their guardians in shelters
Offering travel crates to families fleeing with their animals
Entering war-affected zones when feasible to retrieve left-behind pets
The update highlighted the harsh reality for pets amid the conflict: many remain trapped in empty homes, terrified by ongoing explosions, and waiting for their families to return. Animals Lebanon stated it is doing everything possible to continue these efforts, but urgently requires additional funding to sustain rescue operations, including supplies, equipment, transportation, and support for field teams. Donations are directed to the organisation’s GoFundMe campaign (the link is typically available in their bio on Instagram and Facebook). Those needing assistance with pets are encouraged to reach out directly, while volunteers, foster homes for displaced animals, and financial supporters are warmly welcomed. The organisation concluded with a message of resilience: Lebanon is exhausted, but the teams will not stop their work to help animals caught in the crisis. animalslebanon | Instagram | Linktree
The Incredible Migration of the Monarch Butterfly
And the Secret to how they Navigate 3000 Miles
Every autumn, monarch butterflies embark on one of the most extraordinary migrations on Earth — travelling up to 3,000 miles from Canada and the United States to the mountains of Mexico.
In this article, I explore the science behind their journey — including the remarkable “biological compass” that allows them to navigate using the sun, polarized light, and even Earth’s magnetic field — all guided through their antennae.
But this story goes deeper than science.
It traces their fragile life cycle, their dependence on disappearing milkweed, and the growing threats pushing their populations into decline — alongside the cultural and spiritual significance they hold in Mexico, where they are seen as returning ancestral souls.
This is a story of endurance, intelligence, and survival — but also a reminder of how much this migration now depends on human action.

The Bearcat- Bingturong
I’ve been seeing a few videos go viral on the Binturong, so I am putting this out to combat the fad it is feeding in Asia, to raise awareness of the spiral effects such videos have in encouraging the illegal exotic pet trade.
The Binturong—often called the “bearcat”—has quietly become a social media curiosity, its unusual appearance and popcorn-like scent drawing attention across platforms. But behind the novelty lies a troubling reality: this surge in online fascination is not helping the species—it’s putting it at greater risk.
As demand for “unique” wildlife content grows, binturongs are increasingly being:
captured from the wild
kept illegally as pets
used as props for paid photos or tourist interactions
This strips them from their natural rainforest homes and fuels a trade that thrives on novelty, not conservation.
Binturongs are not domestic animals. They are arboreal, solitary, and deeply tied to forest ecosystems in Southeast Asia, where they play a vital role as seed dispersers. Removing them from the wild disrupts not only their lives—but the forests they help sustain.
If you see:
people offering paid photos with binturongs
individuals keeping them as pets
online sales or promotion of these animals
please report it to local wildlife authorities or conservation organisations.
And just as importantly:
Do not engage, share, or support content that encourages their exploitation in the illegal pet trade, instead raise awareness to protect them.
Every like, share, or paid interaction in social media reinforces a system that turns wild beings into commodities.
True appreciation of wildlife means:
respecting their place in the wild
refusing to participate in exploitative trends
and using our voices to protect, not popularise, their suffering
Let the binturong remain what it is meant to be— a quiet guardian of the rainforest canopy, not a prop for fleeting attention.—CS
