This guy has worked relentlessly over the last 2+ years; checking every box in his quest back to the Big Leagues. Scott has had a heck of a year thus far with @p_larson6's guidance. Congrats @Sblewett7

MLB Spring Training is in full swing.
Here is a behind-the-scenes look into earning an Opening Day roster spot.
Hope is in the air for fanbases in spring training, and that feeling permeates the players.
Most teams rosters look something like this:
~ 80% of the players are locked in.
~ 10% of players are competing for a spot.
~ 10% of the future roster will be surprises.
For me, I was always in that 20%. I came to spring training every year with no guarantee of an opening day roster spot.
Let me be clear, that changes everything.
-
Fans see their favorite players often without a care in the world.
It's true, for guys with a locked-in spot, I can't think of a better time than spring training.
Stakes are low, stats don't matter, and it is truly a place to prepare for the season ahead.
For the 20% fighting for an opportunity, everything matters.
From the first bullpen ~ To the backfields live BP ~ To the 7th inning appearance no one in the stands cares about ~ It all matters.
I remember those first bullpens feeling like some of my important pitches.
The coaches will say:
•"It is only Day 1"
•"Don't blow it out"
•"No one makes the team on Day 1"
The reality is Day 1 is like Thursday at The Masters to the 20% of the clubhouse fighting for a roster spot.
Sure you don't win a golf tournament on Thursday but you it certainly feels like you can lose it.
Day one feels the same.
-
Imagine rolling into work with this scenario:
- 50% of the office knows they will have a spot in 6 weeks
- The other 50% is competing for the remaining 20% spots.
Those who win a spot will:
• Achieve a dream
• Make hundreds of thousands
• Live a lifestyle most dream of
Those who don't will:
•Head to a random city
•Make 1/10th the money (or less)
•Realize their dreams are on hold
So remember, while hope is in the air players are keenly aware of the stakes.

@TreadHQ Pro Day Recap Part 3: Jace Vines
Jace's progression has been fun to watch.
Has always been an electric arm, running it up to 99 in previous seasons. However, after a few years in a row of inconsistent stuff and results (mainly due to arm health), we went into the offseason with the goal of a cleaner unwind of the arm.
Jace worked a ton on getting on plane and as a result has dropped his slot to what you see below ⬇️
We're still refining a few things but popping 95 with 4 pitches grading out > 112 Stuff+ is a great place to be in January.

@TreadHQ Pro Day Recap Part 2: AJ Puckett (@Puckett_AJ15)
Another groundball machine (52.3% in AA this season)
3/4 pitches with Stuff+ grades > 100 (SI - 112, Sweeper - 131, Gyro - 106)
Filthy east/west profile + brought back the hard gyro that had success in 2022. Big things ahead for AJ!
Data in the thread ⬇️
Crazy Fact: Major League Baseball has been around for 147 years, and there have been a little over 23,000 players who have played a professional baseball game.
To put that in perspective, MLB's smallest stadium by capacity is Progressive Field at 37,830. Meaning if every player who's ever put on a big league uniform from 1876 to 2023 sat in the stands, the stadium would only be at 61% capacity.
. @Sblewett7 Has made huge adjustments w/ his lower half & slot/plane of rotation. Resulting in an average velo > 94 in his recent pens (91.9 AVG in ‘22 in game) - much better extension & VAA as well. (s/o to @Mpascoe8 for the TM data) @TreadAthletics@TreadHQ@RylanDomingues
