@AdamCrafton_ I was there and I agree. Crowd around me was not hard core football fans. Beyond USA/USA there wasn’t much energy . Belgium fans in 100 level and 300 level made noise consistently. Crowd didn’t know “what to do” the way it does at Seahawk or Sounder games.

@henrywinter Unfortunately it’s a math problem. Male births in Scotland have been running at about 50% of the level prior to 1970 since about 2010. Holding everything else equal the probability of producing a world class footballers is half as likely now as it was in the prior era

@typesfast Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, maybe folks in the us might consider that insights from globally less popular sports (football, baseball, basketball) might actually not be always relevant.

@typesfast NCAA already does it in soccer. Impact isn’t huge because there is so much judgment involved , for example how long should a throw in take ? Soccer isn’t like major us sports that have distinctive “play” structures versus continuous action.

@TaylorTwellman I don’t buy the “best” athlete argument, however I do believe if us soccer can grow it’s participation levels then the chances of more talent emerging goes up significantly especially when combined with good coaching at youth level

@TaylorTwellman The US is at around 4-6% of u18 male population playing each, versus eu countries as an example at 25-35%. However given the size of the us population the number of participants is about the same (about 2mm per country).

@BobPritchett @LinkofSunshine it is because the vast majority of districts are gerrymandered to the point that its almost impossible for the opposing party to win within the normal range of election outcomes. 70–85% of House districts are effectively “safe” for one party

@BobPritchett You might need to overcome this first. Around 45-50% of young men (ages 18-25) have never asked a woman on a date in person, according to studies from DatePsychology and other sources, citing factors like risk aversion, fear of rejection, and changes in dating culture.

@BobPritchett Once you open the door to two tier citizenship where does it stop? I can argue that someone from the UK (the mother of parliaments) is more democratically sophisticated than a native born citizen. Should that person get >1 vote? Why assume native borne citizens are superior?

@BobPritchett You are also solving a problem that doesn’t exist. Because of gerrymandering only 1 in 10 House seat is competitive (and getting fewer, see Texas) . The danger of these newcomers somehow inflicting their inferior thinking on the Federal Elections is imaginary.
