I had a trip by blue light ambulance to University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust @UHP_NHS a couple of days ago with a life threatening problem. I’ve had amazing service from ED, AMU Thrushell and the ambulance service. Couldn’t fault it.

I am beyond speechless. That not only did it take a year for the Trust to involve the police. But they forced the consultants who raised concerns to apologise to Letby. Trust managers have no regulator to hold them to account. Lessons learned must include proper accountability.

This year’s RCP census shows that 52% of advertised consultant physician posts in England and Wales went unfilled last year, the highest proportion since records began in 2008. Of the 52%, nearly three quarters (74%) went unfilled because of a lack of any applicants at all.
