@DGNorthSS Though I wouldn't call myself a huge fan, I admire J.K. Rowling's success as an author and her impact on pop culture as a whole.

"Sucks to the littluns!" (101) Shows Jack's lack of empathy for those who he doesn't deem 'strong'. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

"Piggy was indignant." (128) Seems to be Piggy's defining trait, based on the word's repeated usage. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

Jack and Ralph have different leading styles; the former tells them what they want, the latter addresses the situation. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@tbak0754 Given his friendship with Piggy, I'm sure he'll be able to appeal to Ralph's humanity. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@vmer2418 I find myself disagreeing. While he can come off as "more-rational-than-thou", he puts the group's best intersts first. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

I wonder if the group's rejection of Piggy's sundial comes from his low status or wanting to genuinely be animals. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

#bronke3 Following the face paint, it's almost like Jack's adopted a new psyche, or an alter ego. He's noticeably more comfortable. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@aten14291 It's interesting. After an unspecified period of time, you'd think they'd be getting physical instead. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@tbak0754 Given how early it is, wouldn't it be more an aspect of his character we haven't seen rather than development? #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@vmer2418 It seems to be a result of his growing frustration at his exclusion among the group. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

(40) Already, social hierarchy is established with Piggy at the bottom. Foreshadowing? #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

(37) Ralph seems characterized as someone desperate for constant validation and approval. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@vmer2418 Apparently, it's (dated) British slang along the lines of "excellent". #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

(34) I've never seen a single quote tempt fate this much. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@pcov3098 I saw you mention his grey shorts as symbolism earlier. Do you think that could refer to his "grey" morality here? #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

Given the setting and the age range of the protagonists, I think LoTF will carry a Darwinist "strong versus weak" theme. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@csou0971 @vmer2418 The back of the book says "schoolboys", so that implies anywhere from elementary to middle school. #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@vmer2418 Granted, while I don't think it's going to go well, I think immaturity can be expected among unsupervised children, no? #bronke3

[sbos1069 @sbos1069]

@cily0563 I think, to an extent, they are aware, just distracting themselves (IE: Ralph with the conch). #bronke3
