Almost twelve years ago, at the age of 35, I moved to Germany from my hometown of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, to retrain as an engineer in the renewable energy sector.
I am supporting Naheed Nenshi's campaign for the Alberta NDP leadership, and you should too!
I am supporting him because he gets that the world is changing, and that Alberta needs to change with it.

MBNA Canada credit card users: MBNA online banking will stop supporting Firefox on August 1. @MBNA_Canada @firefox
Maybe you're looking for another card provider, as I am. I found this great primer! https://t.co/45KcH11hRt
@MBNA_Canada @skye_nott Frustrating? You haven't tried once to explain why you are doing this.
There is no excuse for it. Firefox is a secure, open, standards-compliant browser. If you can't make it work, then I have serious concerns about the overall security of your entire online banking service.
@SteelSch @firefox MBNA agent: "There's just no way to make it work with our website, so we're retiring it from the website."
"There's no way to make it work? I'm logged into the website with Firefox right now and it works fine."
"I understand that, it's not August 1st yet, though."

@david_perell From this week's Friday Finds: 'The book can be summarized in one lyric from the Counting Crows: "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."'
Those Counting Crows are such innovators! No wonder @jonimitchell is always ripping them off.
This is really making wonder if using Twitter is defensible at all. (It will be interesting to see how much, or how little, reach this post ends up getting. I am not optimistic.) (Thanks to @michael_nielsen for the tip.)

@alexstubb Alex, ton franรงais est vraiment excellent! Qui peut parler le finnois, l'italien, le suรฉdois, le franรงais et l'anglais (en ai-je oubliรฉ ?) avec autant de compรฉtence que toi ? (T'as bien pรชchรฉ le compliment ๐ )
@finereli We already see how difficult it is to get people out of freely and self-selected bubbles in the West. Imagine how much harder it is in a country that has essentially eliminated the free news media.
Globalization has made us placeless.
It is often difficult to determine where an internet business is actually located.
Talking about where you are is perceived by some as a liability.
This is dangerous. Everybody has to be somewhere. Why pretend otherwise?
There are several notable aspects to this interview with UK PM Boris Johnson on gas/Russia
1) Talks up North Sea gas
2) Continues to double down on renewables
3) Big talk on nuclear
4) No mention of buildings, let alone efficiency
@arvidkahl Arvid, you live in Canada now, which means you have to start taking vitamin D. And if you take vitamin D, you need to take some magnesium with it.
@AWanitschke@sleepdiplomat This analysis from Markus Loecher of the Berlin School of Economics and Law is also eye-opening: https://t.co/BW7RFDxnql. It provides a good refresher on the importance of sample size. Among other things ;-)
@disruptfascism At 35, I called my mother, distraught because I had found not one but *seven* grey hairs in my beard.
"It's okay, son. It gets better once you're over the initial shock."
