@David__Osland It doesn’t affect the super rich, only those trying to do their best.
Labour also upped NI to 15%, increased min wage, cut business rate support to zero, increased business rates… not only independent schools closing but tons of businesses also.
Effect? Less tax/ more cost.
Eton, Harrow, the poshest private schools will carry on as normal.
It's the mid-tier private schools, used by aspirational parents rather than the upper classes, which are being nuked out of existence by a spiteful Labour government that doesn't care about children.
Another historic private school closing because of Labour’s spiteful school tax. These schools are never coming back. Class war in action - tearing down institutions instead of building opportunity! Awful
“It is with great sadness that Malvern St James is proposing to close at the end of this academic year.
Nationally, the introduction of VAT on private school fees & increased employment costs have placed considerable pressure on the independent sector.”

Employer NI went from 13.8% to 15% in April 2025. The threshold dropped from £9,100 to £5,000.
That's an extra £937.80 per employee per year.
Since then, payrolled employees have dropped by 184,000 and unemployment just hit its highest level since 2015.
Nobody's connecting the dots.

Never accept a counteroffer—even if it’s a 100% hike.
Being in HR, I’ve seen this play out more times than you think.
A candidate I was hiring for was earning 100,000.
He got a new offer of 170,000, a solid jump.
But within 15 minutes of the offer letter hitting his inbox, he backed out.
His current company dangled a 190,000 counter-offer and he accepted it immediately.
Fast forward 4 months…
The same candidate messaged me again.
His company had laid him off and replaced him with a cheaper resource.
His message started with:
Hi sir, I’m really sorry… do you have any openings?
This is exactly why I keep saying this:
👉 A counter-offer is not a reward. It’s a strategy to buy time until they find someone cheaper.
👉 Loyalty doesn’t magically increase with money.
👉 If they valued you, they wouldn’t wait until your resignation to pay you fairly.
Please don’t fall for counter-offers. It looks like a win… until it isn’t.
If you aren’t convinced that Labour are a bunch of ideologues wanting to destroy the chances of poor kids, then read this. 👇
It is so appalling.
I don’t know how they live with themselves.
