Ever wonder how redundant bridges really are? 🤔
At S-BRITE, we turned the Black Hawk #Bridge into a massive #research lab. We simulated a fracture of a primary tension member under 125,000 lbs of load.
Result: It barely moved. 🌉💥

The S-BRITE Center keeps growing. From fracture-critical members to historic steel components, our collection offers unmatched hands-on learning for students, researchers, and engineers. Explore the full gallery at our website. @LifeAtPurdue@PurdueCCE
Another “Implementing Effective Retrofits on Selected Steel Bridge Details” course complete — this time in Dallas, TX with @TxDOT!
Attendees learned hands-on retrofit techniques to boost the performance and extend the life of steel bridges.
🌉 Pedestrian bridges are iconic, but until now lacked national inspection standards.
A new @ASCE_OFFICIAL study by Aedh Alharthi & S-BRITE Director Robert Connor proposes the first risk-based inspection criteria.

S-BRITE is proud to have provided hands-on #training for @myARDOT maintenance staff on effective #steel#bridge retrofits! From crack arrest holes to constraint-induced fracture repairs, this training equips teams with practical retrofit skills #SteelBridges#Retrofits
The S-BRITE team worked with @myARDOT on the historic 1949 Beaver Bridge, the "Little Golden Gate." This 554-ft suspension bridge is the last of its kind in AR still open to traffic. We installed strain gauges to monitor overweight vehicles & protect this vital engineering icon!
Happy Holidays from S-BRITE!🎄We’re thrilled to add the original cables from the Sherman Minton Bridge rehab to our collection, thanks to @MBakerIntl, @INDOT, and @Kokosing1951. 🎉 How many strands do you think are in one of these cables? #BridgeEngineers#Purdue#SeasonOfGiving
#SBRITE is proud to partner with @MichiganDOT to monitor and evaluate the #fatiguelife of one of their two-girder #steel bridge. By closely #monitoring the bridge's behavior, we aim to provide valuable insights into its fatigue life and help extend its lifespan @PurdueCCE#Purdue
#SBRITE, in collaboration with @IndianaLTAP, was honored to host the @aashtospeaks#BridgePreservation Technical Committee meeting. It was a great opportunity to share our insights into the latest advancements with experts from across the country. Exciting progress ahead! #Purdue
We’re excited to host @INDOT for our latest hands-on #SBRITE training, "Implementing Effective Retrofits." Engineers are gaining practical experience in retrofitting steel #bridges to ensure their safety and longevity. @PurdueCCE#Retrofits
A big thank you to @CSX for donating this 47-ft @steel railroad bridge to our #SBRITE center! Added to our growing historical collection, it will be key in training both current and future #Bridge engineers.
#SBRITE is the proud home of these 21'-10" deep #bridge girders that carried 450-foot span of I-90 across the #MississippiRiver near Dresbach, MN. These donated specimens showcase simple and effective retrofits performed at the intersection of welds on a lateral gusset plate.
Thrilled to share that the #SBRITE team successfully completed the #Fatigue & #Fracture - Design of Steel #Bridges training at @TxDOTAustin! Exceptional engagement and fantastic feedback from participants: "Fantastic way of teaching a complex topic!" @PurdueCCE@PurdueEngineers
The #SBRITE research team just completed instrumentation of the iconic Cut River #bridge! Monitoring and determining the #fatigue life is crucial for ensuring safety and longevity. Proud to support @MichiganDOT in maintaining one of its bridges. @PurdueEngineers@PurdueCCE
