Really enjoyed this @AkinHuddle conversation with Garrett Hilbert (“The Purple Hoser”) from @DudePerfect
He talks about his faith, his church, @SBTS Professor Dr. Oren Martin, and more!
Episode will release in a few weeks! Stay tuned!
Men, heed the words that come right before Paul’s command to “Fight.” Then you’ll understand true manliness.
But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. 1 Tim 6:11-12
"I think even more than theological and practical is that students come away as people who are passionate about the Lord, about solid doctrine and practicing it. And they do so with an attitude of humility and respect and, mutually trying to honor one another.
I hope that my work would also propel students and those who read my books to obviously love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength, be passionate about assisting others and leading others in worship and being strong disciples of Jesus, and it would propel them to share their faith and engage missionally through church planting, and missionary work.”
Dr. Gregg Allison is Professor of Christian Theology.
He teaches various classes on Christian Theology including Systematic Theology III, Doctrine of the Holy Spirit, Theology of Human Embodiment, and more.
For Dr. Gregg R. Allison, systematic theology gives clarity to the Christian life. He teaches students to see how the whole counsel of Scripture comes together in the core doctrines of the faith and how those truths shape daily living.
In the classroom, Dr. Allison emphasizes both understanding and application, helping students connect doctrine to discipleship. His work forms students who hold firm convictions while cultivating humility and love for the church.
Get to know Dr. Allison, who helps students learn how sound doctrine leads to faithful living in the life of the church.
"So it's valuable for church members who should be reading and studying and memorizing and meditating on and applying the Bible, but it puts it together in a way that focuses on key issues that they should embrace.
Systematic theology is about what we believe as Christians. When we know what we believe, then it's how do we live that out? How do we act in this world as Christians?"
Rooted in the Word: Wisdom from the English Particular Baptists by Dr. Michael A. G. Azad Haykin is available now!

The British Particular, or Calvinistic, Baptist community of the long eighteenth century (1680s-1830s) was a remarkable community in many ways. In addition to spearheading the modern missionary movement through men like William Carey, they also produced a wealth of biblical commentary, robust works of apologetics and spiritual biography, powerful sermons and rich hymns of worship. In this small volume, we look at three key figures from this world: John Gill, the remarkable autodidact who produce the first critical commentary of the whole Bible in English; Robert Robinson, who penned one of the most powerful hymns in the canon of hymnody, but who did not finish well; and John Fawcett, also a hymn writer and a man renowned in his day for his leadership of the Baptist cause in the North of England. All three men have much to teach us, if only we have ears to listen.

While at SBC, we asked Southern alumni a simple question: What are you most thankful for from your time at Southern?
Again and again, we heard the same themes: Faithful professors. A deeper love for God's Word. Preparation for the realities of ministry.
Southern Seminary exists to equip men and women to serve Christ and his church, and it's always encouraging to hear how that training continues to bear fruit long after graduation.
We're grateful for these alumni and the ways the Lord is using them in churches around the world.
What a joy to spend day one at TGCW connecting with women who love God's Word and care deeply about serving Christ faithfully.
We've loved every conversation, from alumni sharing their stories to future students exploring theological education. Grateful for the encouragement and eager for the days ahead.
What stands out most from SBC isn't a single event or conversation. It's the people.
Students meeting faculty face to face. Alumni sharing stories of God's faithfulness in ministry. Professors investing in future church leaders. Graduates serving churches and leading conversations across the convention.
We're thankful for every person who stopped by the booth, attended the Alumni & Friends Luncheon, or spent time with us throughout the week.
Thankful for another SBC and grateful for God's continued kindness to Southern Seminary.
We get a lot of questions at SBC, including:
"What if I want the flexibility of online education, but I still want to experience campus life?"
Our Experiential Modulars are designed to help students do both.
Through Southern Seminary's Experiential Modulars, online students can spend time on campus, learn directly from faculty, attend chapel, and build relationships with fellow students, all without relocating.
One of the joys of SBC is seeing the Southern family gathered in one place.
Throughout the day, our faculty connected with students and alumni, our graduates participated in important conversations across the convention, and friends old and new stopped by the booth to catch up and encourage one another.
As we listened to reports, attended panels, and shared conversations throughout the day, we were reminded that theological education matters because the gospel matters.
The shirts went quickly, but the conversations are still going strong.
From our alumni sharing what the Lord is doing in their ministries across the country, to our online students connecting with faculty in person, to prospective students asking what preparation for ministry looks like at Southern, our booth stayed busy all day.
If you're at SBC this week, stop by and talk with us about how the Lord might prepare you for ministry at Southern Seminary.
Southern Seminary's PhD program prepares both scholars and pastor-theologians to strengthen the church.
As the highest level of theological study, the PhD is grounded in a rigorous academic tradition and aimed toward service in Christ's church. Here students are equipped to teach, defend, and treasure the truth that shapes God's people.
Whether in the lecture hall or the pulpit, the calling is the same.
If God has called you to strengthen the church, this is where that calling is sharpened.

What a joy to spend the first day of SBC 2026 with pastors, church leaders, alumni, students, and friends.
Every conversation is a reminder of why theological training matters and why we remain committed to preparing men and women to serve the church with conviction, wisdom, and faithfulness.
If you're at the convention, stop by and see us!
