I think the most effective teachers love students.
I think the most effective principals love teachers.
(This was an important thing for me to learn as a young administrator.)
Best retention plan for keeping great teachers? Treat them like they are the best. Few teachers leave an environment where they feel valued, supported, appreciated, and treated like professionals.
The work isn’t always fun. It isn’t always convenient.
You won’t always feel like it.
You may doubt it at times.
But the work is always worth it.
It always makes you better.
It always moves you forward.
Progress rewards those who show up.
What if ONE second of your day gave a pencil pack to a student in an under-resourced school?

Just because some teachers would rather stay in the classroom than go into administration doesn’t mean they aren’t leaders. Many have amazing talents which can benefit the whole school. Good leaders recognize and value them as experts.
Take ownership of your mindset.
Take ownership of your attitude.
Take ownership of your growth.
Take ownership of your actions.
Take ownership of your effort.
Take ownership of your impact.
Take ownership.
Do the work.
