Bold target, serious backing: Vision2H is on a mission to close the gap in cost-effective electrolyser supply and meet the anticipated surge in demand for hundreds of GWs of ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ป ๐ต๐๐ฑ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป capacity โ through advanced ๐๐๐ stack technology designed for real-world scale. โก
In SCALE AEM, Vision2H takes on a pivotal validation and integration role. ๐ฌ They define technical requirements and testing architecture for the beta stack, upgrade the 10 kW test bench, and develop the dry membrane activation protocol. From there, they conduct performance and durability testing under harmonised EU standards, providing critical technical feedback to support membrane and electrode scale-up.
Their contribution culminates in the integration and final validation of scaled stacks, including Factory Acceptance Testing on ten 10 kW units and the development of testing systems up to 100 kW capacity. ๐ญ

Last week, the SCALE AEM consortium came together for our first General Assembly meeting, hosted by Fraunhofer IWU.
SCALE AEM (Supply Chain & Automated Production Line Expansion for AEM Electrolysers) is on a mission to industrialise Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolysis, a promising technology that enables green hydrogen production without relying on expensive platinum group metals or PFAS-based materials ๐โก
It was fantastic to finally meet face to face after months of remote collaboration, align on our shared vision, and set the pace for the exciting work ahead towards a more competitive and sustainable European hydrogen industry ๐ก

We're kicking off a series introducing the partners driving this Horizon Europe project forward, starting with our project coordinator: Fraunhofer IWU (Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology).
With ~670 researchers across six German locations, Fraunhofer IWU sits at the intersection of advanced manufacturing and sustainability, exactly the expertise SCALE AEM needs.
Their role in the project goes well beyond coordination. Fraunhofer IWU leads two core work packages focused on ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐บ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ด๐ป ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐น๐ถ๐๐: using data acquisition and AI-driven optimisation to surface machine and process errors, reduce environmental impact, and explore end-of-life recycling pathways for #electrolyser components.
