We audited 50 healthcare websites. Here's what patients see that you don't.
Most clinic owners think their website is "fine."
It loads. It has their phone number. It lists their services.
But "fine" is doing a lot of quiet damage to your patient pipeline.
In this study, we went through 50 healthcare websites (GPs, specialists, diagnostic centres, and wellness brands).
We graded them the way a first-time patient would.
Not as marketers. Not as developers.
As someone who just got a referral, typed your name into Google, and is deciding whether to trust you.
Here's what we found.
1. Stock photo doctors are killing your credibility.
On 38 out of 50 websites, the "team" section was weak.
Some didn't have photos.
Some featured generic stock images.
Some had photos so clearly staged they could be selling insurance.
Patients are not stupid. They know the difference between a real team and a Getty Images search result.
When someone is choosing a doctor, they're looking for a human being.
They want to see the actual face of the person who will examine them.
2. Your "last updated" date is showing. And it's 2019.
Blog posts from five years ago are sitting at the top of your resources page.
COVID protocols that were never taken down.
A "new location opening soon" banner for a location that's been open for three years.
Outdated content looks lazy, and in healthcare, it raises a specific alarm: "Are their clinical standards this outdated too?"
Patients connect the freshness of your website to the freshness of your practice.
3. No one is answering your Google reviews. No one.
We checked the Google Business profiles attached to all 50 websites.
31 of them had unanswered negative reviews sitting publicly visible. Some dating back two years.
Patients don't just read the negative review. They watch how you respond to it.
A thoughtful, professional response to a complaint actually builds trust.
It signals that someone is in charge. That someone cares.
Silence signals the opposite.
One unanswered "the receptionist was rude" review is a broken window that every single prospect walks past before they decide to call you.
4. Your website takes 8 seconds to load on mobile. Your patient left on the 3rd.
Over half the websites we audited had mobile load times above 5 seconds.
Consider this: 70%+ of healthcare searches happen on mobile.
Someone just left the specialist's office.
They're in a parking lot, on their phone, Googling follow-up options.
They tap your link.
They wait. They leave.
You paid for that click.
Maybe via a referral, maybe via an ad, maybe via SEO.
And your slow website handed that patient to your competitor.
5. Your "Book an Appointment" button goes nowhere useful.
This one hurt to see.
On 22 websites, the primary CTA either linked to a contact form with 9 fields, a wrong phone number, or a broken appointment booking system.
You're running ads. You're doing SEO. You're posting on Instagram.
And when a motivated patient finally raises their hand and clicks "Book Now", you fumble it.
6. No credentials visible above the fold.
Patients need to trust you before they'll contact you.
But most websites bury accreditations, certifications, years of experience, and affiliations deep in an About page.
Your credentials aren't bragging. They're reassurance.
"15 years of experience. Affiliated with Apollo Hospitals. 4.8 stars across 400 reviews."
That sentence, visible the moment someone lands on your page, does more conversion work than any headline you'll ever write.
7. The copy talks about you. Not the patient.
"We are a leading multi-specialty clinic committed to providing world-class care through cutting-edge technology and a patient-first approach."
Every. Single. Website.
Patients don't care about your mission statement.
They care about one thing: "Can you solve my problem?"
The websites that converted best in our sample led with the patient's pain, not the clinic's pride.
"Struggling to get a diagnosis? We'll see you within 24 hours."
"Chronic back pain stopping your life? Our specialists have helped 3,000+ patients get back to moving."
Same clinic. Different copy. Completely different feeling.
The hard truth:
Your ad budget is like pressurised water.
If your website is full of holes, the water will leak out.
Patients will walk through your outdated website, over to your competitor.

And most people have no idea this even exists👇
If you’ve ever boosted a post from your iPhone, you’ve probably been paying an Apple Tax without even realising it.
@IncomeTaxIndia@nsitharamanoffc@officeofPCM@FinMinIndia@PIB_India@MIB_India I tried paying advance tax yesterday, the amt got debited but there was an error at the end. Now, the money is paid but it's not visible in "Payment History"; instead, it's visible in "Generated Challans" with a "Payment initiated". How long do I wait? Should I pay again? HELP!
Let me know if you'd like a video walkthrough of the entire setup because it will take barely an hour to set this all up in clickup.
That's it for this post.
See you in the next one!
