Then, apparently after getting some medical attention where the wound was bandaged, he doesn't go to the hospital, but stops to speak to the media.

It should be noted that part of bandaging a gunshot wound is to clean it thoroughly with copious amounts of saline solution and disinfectant, which would have washed the blood from his face. He made sure that didn't happen, because he wanted to be camera ready.
