According to a Report from the New York Times, obtained from speaking with Three Iranian and Three Israeli Officials; Friday Night’s Operation by the Israeli Air Force targeted several Air Defense Sites which were charged with the Protection of Critical Oil and Petrochemical Refineries, as well as a Large Gas Field and a Major Port in Southern Iran.

Multiple Air Defense Systems were targeted and destroyed in the Khuzestan Province, including an S-300 Surface-to-Air Missile Battery, which provided Aerial-Coverage for the Bandar Imam Khomeini Petrochemical Complex, the Major Port of Bandar Imam Khomeini on the Arabian Gulf, and the Abadan Oil Refinery. Additional Systems were also struck in the Ilam Province, near the Tange Bijar Gas Refinery.

Iranian Officials have stated that the Attack has raised “Alarms” within Government and Military Circles, as Critical Energy and Economic Hubs are now seen as Vulnerable to Future Attacks from Israel or the United Stated. Ali Vaez, an Analyst with the Crisis Group’s Iran Project, has stated that the Strikes look to be a “Preamble” to much more Effective Strikes against Iran’s Infrastructure and Nuclear Sites; further stating that Iran does not have the Capacity to replace these Systems, leaving them Vulnerable to Future Tit-for-Tats.
