@thnorfar @LeahRossHenry We require physics at our school for juniors but unfortunately many have not had precalculus yet. They have had up-to Algebra II so the physics class has to be based on their level of knowledge in math to that point. #pblchat#mathchat
@cfanch@dlteach I love this idea even for Algebra II since we reteach domain and range in Algebra II! I need to get some great graphing software, what do you suggest for this? #pblchat@cfanch
@LeahRossHenry A5: I think the support has to come from the county, a class with an EOC cannot focus on PBL, the Ts are focused on meeting the Standards before the EOC. I teach mainly seniors so I can do a lot more PBL and my admin fully support PBL #pblchat#mathchat
@LeahRossHenry A4: A stats carnival every semester where my Ss calculate the probability of their game having less than 25% chance of someone winning the game. Ss create their game, calculate probability, collect hypothetical & experimental data while using science & technology #pblchat
@gmathewson1@LeahRossHenry@gmathewson1 A3: I like that you use various methods to present and allow Ss practice. PBL should include aspects of problem solving with peers so that they can discover and discuss in the process. #pblchat#mathchat
@dlteach A3: I have different levels of PBL, I offer smaller projects for Ss to work on together prior to a summative assessment for formative assessments then big projects are given as summative assessments which are deeper once Ss have had the smaller projects for practice. #pblchat
@LeximLe@LeahRossHenry A2: @LeximLe I think that is a great idea! Ss are always asking "when will I use this?" or "how does this apply to me?" Ss will know that the scenario relates since it looks at everyday life information #pblchat#mathchat
@LeahRossHenry A2: In Math Decision making, I have Ss take their understanding of proportions and create a proportion to determine how many plastic balls will fit in my entire classroom. Ss discuss gap space and volume comparing to smaller proportions #pblchat#mathchat
@cfanch@cfanch A1:I agree that it is important for S led classes, but it is also important for Ss to take learning to solve real world issues which is what we do in stats for discovery and solving world problems #pblchat#mathchat
@cfanch@cfanch I agree it is important for S led classes its about discovery, in Stats it is also important that Ss can extract information from world information to create solutions for real world problems.
@LeahRossHenry A1: I teach stats and decision making math and we use PBL all the time! We connect the concepts to real world scenarios and students have PBL to connect their understanding. #pblchat#mathchat
