Thank you so much for your patience over the past couple of days. In light of the COVID-19 virus, it is with great regret that we have come to the conclusion that we will be postponing tomorrow's SCARP Student Symposium.
This decision has been taken with a heavy heart knowing the work that our student organizing team have put into the event and the inspiration that the Symposium would have provided. We will be exploring the possibility of the Symposium taking place in the fall.
With symposium officially less than a month away, we want to extend a huge thank-you to our generous platinum sponsor Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Without your support, putting off this event would not be possible.
We are thrilled to announce our 2nd keynote speaker, @jessiehemphill (Tlali’ila’ogwala).
Jessie specializes in Indigenous community planning, assisting communities and organizations in revitalizing Indigenous planning practices and exercising self-determination.
In effort to make this years event as inclusive and accessible as possible, we have added additional questions to registration regarding services we are hoping to share with attendees. If you have already registered and have accessibility concerns, please email our team!
We are very excited to announce our first keynote speaker, Norma Kassi.
Norma is a citizen of the Vuntut Gwich’in First Nation, Environmental Educator, and Grass Roots Activist. Visit our website to read Norma’s full bio!
Have you heard the news? Registration for the 2020 SCARP Symposium is now open through the link in our bio. Be sure to pick up your ticket before January 31st to get the best price!
We are inviting submissions for poster sessions, panel speakers and hands-on, creative workshops that would contribute to the theme of imagining otherwise. Submissions from all backgrounds are welcome and, for now, can be a draft proposal.

As we get ready for the school year, we’re excited to pass the torch to the incoming 1st year SCARPies, who will be running the SCARP Symposium in 2020! Over the next few days, we’ll be posting some of our highlights from our event this past spring. Photo credit: Summer Rayne
We have so many biases for what we feel makes a good storyteller... charismatic, succinct, articulate, good English... we have to be better listeners and make the time and space for people who don’t immediately meet those criteria @Jay_Pitter#SCARPsymp
Incredibly great insights by @Jay_Pitter on both the personal and political practice of city building. Monologues aren't stories. We must elevate others by sharing authorship and reciprocate to the communities who share their lived experiences. #SCARPsymp
THANK YOU participants, panelists and sponsors for an inspiring day filled with reflection about stories, spaces & the role of planning. Thank you @Jay_Pitter & @Skusgluums for your inspiring keynotes. Us 1st yr SCARP students are so grateful for such an amazing day. #SCARPsymp
