Worked with a single-streamed 2D class in @wrdsb today completing some expand and simplify using algebra tiles. It was magical! We had builders, recorders and checkers in groups of three after the algebra tiles were introduced.
@mrsbistro @JC3Sandy I have been using small group instruction in my grade 10 destreamed math class for the same reason :). It has been such an effective strategy to meet all kids where they are at and push them forward! I now set my alarm clock to keep me to 15-20 minutes per group! Lol
CYU Day combined with small group instruction. It has been a game changer in my grade 10 single-streamed math. Have you tried it? Gives students accountability for their own learning. 27 students-all working! #thinkingclassroom#WRDSB#teachingmath
@JenBrownEdu@aledaklassen@MrsSStephenson@coleiroscience @MsAGilbert These were so simple compared to what I tried before. If you have more ideas, I am always eager to learn! I would like kids to be more involved in creating them this semester…
Conceptual understanding - the more I learn…the less I know! What is the best method you have used to teach subtraction of integers? “Bucket of zeros”, “opposite of”, “number lines”, or…? I would love to hear your ideas!
