We've published a new report, commissioned by @P_H_S_Official, modelling the potential impact of a minimum price for tobacco in Scotland.

We find that it would reduce smoking rates, save lives and narrow inequalities.

We can now update this plot of age-specific trends in alcohol-specific and drug misuse deaths in Scotland with 2023 data.

All sorts of interesting things going on here. Not many of them are good though.

New alcohol-specific deaths data from 2023 for Scotland was published yesterday. Basically no change from 2022 levels, although deaths did rise slightly in the most deprived group (who already have massively higher rates than less deprived groups).
