It’s called the Dispatchable Reliability Reserve Service – Plus, or DRRS+. That’s a mouthful, even for folks that follow ERCOT.
In short, DRRS+ is a proposal that’s making its way through the ERCOT review process; it’s also a bad idea that could undercut Texas’s competitive energy market.
Here’s how:
Texas already incentivizes resources that provide electricity when demand spikes and ERCOT needs more power. The existing system includes things like ancillary services — which consumers already pay for — to ensure the lights stay on when electricity gets tight.
Now, the ERCOT Board of Directors is considering implementing DRRS+, which would radically undercut the unique, competitive energy market that has made Texas the nation's energy leader. DRRS+ would force Texans to pay for electricity resources with little regard to supply and demand, the real-time cost of energy, or whether that electricity is needed at all.
Last week, TEBA weighed in against DRRS+ on behalf of the hundreds of large employers and energy consumers we represent. As we wrote, “This structure incentivizes overcommitment, weakens real-time price signals, and results in excess capacity remaining online.”

Less than one month into the new year, 2026 had already produced 1/5 of the measles cases that happened in 2025.
The measles situation is getting worse.
Texas is moving so fast, EIA can't keep up. According to S&P, at the end of Q2, ERCOT had 14,000 megawatts of batteries. According to ERCOT, we're now at 15,712 megawatts. Texas has added more batteries in the last quarter than PJM has added in its entire history.
Energy is the most important thing you can be working on.
Everything is downstream of energy.
Nothing else matters if we don't solve for abundant energy.
🏗️ China is outpacing the U.S. on energy deployment.
⚡ Texas is well-positioned to lead the fast energy buildout America needs.
📰 Check out TEBA CEO @powellrich's new op-ed in the @dallasnews detailing the advantages of Texas's competitive energy market and the critical role our state can play in the economic race with China — delivering the low-cost, reliable electricity our nation needs.
"It’s easier and faster to build energy in Texas than almost anywhere in the country. ... It’s crucial to move the energy we need onto the grid faster, and Texas is best positioned to help."

If you are older, you knew exactly what day Sports Illustrated showed up in the mailbox. Found this just last week and it took me back to a time when the team was great, they were called something different and if your team made the cover, it was the greatest thing ever. RIP SI.
I love @kathyblackwell’s gift guide because: A) 12 out of the 25 gifts are $50 and under, B) You can adopt a little sea turtle, and C) It has that refreshing, non-PR-motivated spirit.
Reanimating dead coal plants isn’t the answer: Texas needs to double down on its renewable energy leadership and invest in real solutions that keep Texans free and safe from high bills and blackouts. https://t.co/PdDLQgMz5j #txlege#txenergy
This is a @DavidPasztor stan account. He is truly the best line editor I have ever worked with; everything he touched turned to gold. He came out of a peaceful, dog-filled, desert retirement to grow the Texas Tribune's reporters into the writers he knew they could be.
Some leaders want to weaken our renewable energy industry. "But, surprisingly, these efforts to undercut clean TX energy could really benefit … clean TX energy — at least, the kind Texans can generate themselves." - @BretBiggart (@FreedomSolarPwr) https://t.co/SPDd7KpOuW
.@JoshuaMBlank delivering a cold cup of coffee with this year’s @texaslyceum poll: there’s declining agreement among Texans that “democracy is the best form of government.” #txlege
Big crowd for @JoshuaMBlank’s presentation of the 2023 @TexasLyceum poll. Very sobering results about Texans’ feelings on democracy and the economy. #pubcon23#txlege https://t.co/jNJkW1oTrZ
@chriso627 I *in theory* understand why.
I just think it's hilarious that automated strike zones mean it immediately devolves into Angel Hernandez discourse 😂
