Modern poetry sucks, yet terrible poems somehow go viral online. I challenged myself to make even worse poems, and unfortunately, I think I succeeded.
This is a great book if you love bad poetry and want to have a laugh. https://t.co/J26O7DywR8

He argued that I was far too fragile,โจBut I have endured
Every kind of breaking,
And still, my heart grows back stronger
And more resilient, each time.
Fragile things do not survive
What I have survived.

You asked for all of me
Pure, human, authentic
And I gave you my veins
You drank me empty
Then complained
That my tarnished blood
Tasted too much like survival.

Childhood felt like drowning
In a bathtub full of gasoline
Every time I tried to breathe,
Those who promised safety
Lit a match,
And told me
To be grateful for the warmth.

I stitched away my childhood trauma
With the same thread my mother used
Only to find the pattern repeating-
Blood and bruises,
Disguised as pretty embroidery.

They all insist that my trauma
Is what makes me strong
But strength is just another word
For an innocent child
Who had no choice.

My therapist asked politely
About my childhood,
And I did not know how to answer.
Do I divulge the one I lived?
Or the one I fabricated in my mind
Just to survive?

I grew up afraid
Of strangers and monsters,
As many children do,
But the monster I feared
Did not hide beneath my bed
Or approach me in the street,
It wore a wedding ring,
And a smile,
And slept peacefully in the next room.

I brought my favourite fluffy pillow
My rainbow pyjamas,
And a big smile.
Her mother said,
โWeโre so glad to have you here!โ
And it felt like love.
That night, I cried quietly
In her guestroom,
Because her family was nicer to me
Than mine ever was.

Throughout my entire childhood
My family taught me how to survive
And not how to feel
That is why I grew up
Mistaking pain
For home.

They called it 'discipline'
When he removed his leather belt
But love should not leave
A roadmap of red welts
Across your childhood.

I built a home
(At least I really tried to)
Within your ashtray hands,
But you were always
A storm incarnate
You left me completely
Shattered in the wreckage
Of my own splintered heart
Wondering why I ever bothered
To call you safe.

I have seemingly been
Holding my icy breath
For as long as I can recall
And between menthol cigarette breaks
Paper dust in my lungs
And your unrequited love
I think I would like to learn
How to breathe again.
