DAPHNE
"Except he'd already asked one of the Patils," she said, in the voice she used for the weather. She was not looking at Pansy. "Last night."
"Last night?" Pansy's mouth fell open. "Then what did he want with her?"
Draconia stopped, one foot on the bottom stair.
There, thought Daphne.
It was nothing, really. She had only stopped. But a girl with nothing to hide would have gone on up the stairs and let Pansy wonder.
"Hang on," said Pansy, "which Patil?"
"Does it matter?" said Daphne. She had never in her life needed to tell one Patil from the other, and she did not take her eyes off the stairs to start now.
Pansy shrieked, and on the sofa Crabbe and Goyle laughed too. Daphne only smiled. Draconia turned round. She was smiling as well, and it was a perfectly good smile. It arrived about a second after everybody else's.
"But what did he want?" Pansy demanded, swinging round in her chair. "Draconia! What did he want?"
Draconia opened her mouth, and for once nothing came out of it.
Pansy had gone quiet, which meant she was thinking. It happened so seldom, and took so long, that it was always something of an occasion. Daphne did not look round. At the foot of the stairs, one foot still on the bottom step, Draconia said nothing either, and Daphne watched her do it.
"He hadn't seen something," said Pansy slowly, "had he?"
For a moment nobody said anything.
Draconia did not look at Pansy, who had said it. She looked at Daphne. It was the smallest thing, a flick of the eyes, there and gone. But Daphne had been looking at her all along, quite pleasantly, so she was there to meet it, and it was Draconia who looked away first.
Pansy had said it, and Draconia had wanted to know who had heard. So it was near enough to something to matter. And of everyone in the room, the one she was afraid had heard it was Daphne.
For one moment Pansy Parkinson had been the cleverest person in the room. She had walked straight up to the thing, the way she walked up to everything, without the faintest idea it was there. Daphne had not thought she would live to see it.
"Did he catch you with that Durmstrang boy?"
And then, being Pansy, she walked straight past it. Daphne had not really expected anything else.
Pansy was thinking again, and this time Daphne turned to watch it happen. The Durmstrang boy had asked Draconia in front of the entire Great Hall; there was nothing for anybody to catch her at. It reached Pansy the way most things did, slowly and by the scenic route.
Then her face cleared. "Oh! Oh, I know! He was trying to trade up! He'd got a Patil and he thought he could do better! To you!"
"Then he has better taste than I gave him credit for," said Draconia, and went up the stairs.
Pansy screamed with delight. Crabbe and Goyle grinned at each other. Nobody watched Draconia go but Daphne.
It didn't matter, Daphne thought, that Pansy had filled the silence; Pansy always filled silences. Draconia, who had an answer for everything, had stood at the foot of the stairs without one. And then she had taken the rope Pansy threw her and tied it off before anyone saw her reach for it. It was very good. It was almost perfect.
But Pansy had said seen, and Draconia had looked at Daphne. Whatever Potter had walked across the Great Hall to say, he had seen it first.
Daphne sat back in her chair.
"Better taste," said Pansy, still laughing. "Did you hear her? Isn't she awful?" She sounded delighted.
"Vincent," said Daphne.
Crabbe, who had his eyes half shut, opened one.
"Has something happened?" She let it sit for a moment. "You'd tell me."
He looked at her for a moment. It was not an unfriendly look.
"You'd have to ask her," he said, and shut his eye again.
Daphne smiled.
So Vincent Crabbe had a line, and that was where it was. She found that she liked him rather better for it.
"Well," she said, and stood up. "Someone should check on her."
She smiled at him as she passed the end of the sofa, and let her hand brush his arm, so lightly that only he could have felt it. She did not look back to see whether his ears had gone pink. She was fairly sure they had.
The door was shut. Daphne let herself in.
Draconia was standing at the mirror, putting her hair back up. She had two pins in her mouth and a third in her fingers, and she did not stop when the door opened, or turn round. Their eyes met in the glass instead.
She had had perhaps two minutes, Daphne thought, and she had spent them on her hair.
Daphne sat down without being asked.
"I had to get away," she said. "She's telling it again. He's on both knees now."
Draconia slid a pin home. "Is he."
Daphne let a little silence go by. Then she said, as though it had only just occurred to her, "I heard the most peculiar thing today."
Draconia took the last pin out of her mouth. "I'm sure you did."
"About Potter, actually."
Draconia's hands went on with her hair. Daphne watched them in the glass.
"I didn't think you'd want it said downstairs," said Daphne.
"How thoughtful."
"That Ravenclaw. The one who told me about Patil." Daphne examined a fingernail. "She said Potter's told someone he knows something about you."
"Which Ravenclaw?"
It was the first question Draconia had asked her all day.
"Does it matter?" said Daphne. "She had it from Lavender Brown. Neither of them knew what. I don't think anyone does." And then, gently: "Yet."
The last pin went in crooked. Draconia took it out and did it again.
In the glass, Draconia's face did nothing at all. It was, Daphne thought, a very good nothing. It was the kind you had to practise.
"Which is ridiculous, of course," said Daphne. "You can't bear him."
"Then why repeat it?"
"Because it made me laugh." Daphne smiled at her in the glass. "And honestly, whatever he thinks he knows, if it's anything nasty, half the house would throw you a party."
She knew exactly what that meant, and she could see that Draconia did too. If something nasty would only win her a party, then the only thing worth being frightened of was something that wasn't nasty at all.
Draconia laughed. "Potter."
It was a perfectly good laugh. Daphne had heard her do better.
"I know," said Daphne. "Still. It'll be all round the castle by Christmas, if he keeps on." She stood up. "Not that anyone would believe him."
Draconia turned round from the mirror at last. Every pin was in place.
"Was there anything else, Daphne?"
"No," said Daphne pleasantly. "I'll tell Pansy you're resting."
She went out and shut the door softly behind her. Halfway down the stairs she found that she was smiling, and stopped.
DRACONIA
When the door had closed, Draconia stood quite still in front of the mirror.
Potter's told someone he knows something about you.
It was a lie. Of course it was. Daphne had come up here to watch her face, and Draconia had let her.
But Daphne had said the thing about Patil in front of the whole room, and Daphne never said anything in front of people that could turn out to be wrong. And it fitted. Chang had turned him down on Friday, so of course he had asked someone else that night.
That night.
While she had been lying in the dark with the hangings drawn, saying Stupid Potter into her pillow, he had been asking Parvati Patil to the ball. He had not even waited until morning.
She had not even been turned down. You had to be taken seriously to be turned down.
In the mirror, something moved in her face that she had not told it to. She watched it until it stopped.
She did not cry. She had done that already, on the pitch, and it had done her no good at all.
That, at least, made things simpler. Whatever she had been to Potter on Friday, it would not be enough to keep him quiet.
Lavender Brown could not keep a thing in her head for an hour. Downstairs, out of nowhere, Pansy had said seen. And after this morning, after the whole hall had watched her turn her back on him, Potter had every reason in the world.
It didn't have to be true. It only had to be possibly true.
She could not afford possibly. Potter knew two things, and either one of them would finish her.
She could not frighten him into forgetting. She could not pay him to. There was nothing anybody could say to him, ever, that would make him not know.
There was a spell for that. The Ministry did it to Muggles all the time.
They did not teach it at Hogwarts. It would be in the library, then, in the part Madam Pince did not let fourth-years into.
By Christmas, Daphne had said.
She had until Christmas.

Here's all the parts together. I included Spanish subtitles in the video here, and I have a bunch of other languages here: https://t.co/98uUeztoKg
Just so there's no ambiguity at all @LeosTake26 does not have my permission to reupload this, nor any of my other content he's been uploading wholesale and acting like a dickhead when people call him out on it.
This is all the parts combined, with some fixes for the stuff that bothered me the most, just because I would probably be working on this for a few more days if I tried to fix every single thing I noticed. I'm still working on writing the next parts up to the conclusion of the Yule Ball, and I'm working on the anime adaptation of everything here at the same time. I'm bit busier in the upcoming week so the pace is definitely slowing down but hopefully I can pick it back up once I've figured out the writing and this upcoming week is over. Thanks for watching.

@hot_rails more my fault a lot of people assumed that, because i originally had some parts where he says his name that i didn't end up making (just some made up character) so i used this as an opportunity to like set that part straight as well.
@ddpaskoff She just wants to be the #1 Slytherin girl, she has no interest in Harry other than the fact that she thinks something is there that will ruin Malfoids social standing is what I'm thinking about. If anything, she is interested in Crabbe
I didn't expect to do all of this, I had only planned to adapt that first part but then so many people asked for the Yule Ball that I started actually writing myself because I thought that getting to the ending required something more, so a lot of this is post hoc reasoning, However, I had worked with what was on screen first to figure everything else out.
Your interpretation is my interpretation, she asked on instinct, and then got carried away beginning to say what she actually desired without thinking and oblivious to the situation and Harry's headspace, and it is that fact why she is that hurt because she accidentally exposed herself and then got shouted at and got it treated like a joke the one time she accidentally exposed her true self/desires.
She has no way of knowing what it is, but i think the fact she gets the feeling Malfoid is hiding something is enough for her. My idea is that she's just trying to figure out what it is, it matters less of what it actually is and the fact that it's something that Malfoid is trying to hide. I think my biggest reservations if her motivation seems sufficient to a cold audience. It's just her being catty and wanting to be the #1 Slytherin girl which i think is a realistic enough motivation, but not that interesting in itself.
@AlexxDoubleU Daphne is prying for more information, and Crabbe refuses to give her more, presumably out of loyalty to Malfoy. Despite the fact that is against Daphne's interests, she found she liked him because he didn't divulge the information to her.
@AlexxDoubleU the stone wall opens like a door opening (Draconia enters after, just after the events in the video coming back to the slytherin common room)
I realized that after doing all that shit to bridge the motivation for the yule ball I needed more shit after that or else it's going to be so anticlimactic, so I needed something more. I figured some kind of pressure trying to figure out what was going on and it would make sense from some other chick in her clique that would want dirt on her just so she could be the #1 slytherin girl instead. And daphne is a blank slate so I started working on this. Plus I quite enjoyed just giving more personality to slytherins.
I've gone with Draconia because the first thing I adapted was mooonlightbros story and that was the name he used and it's instantly legible as female draco by people not deeply invested in this, it's said on screen once in the video and also written on the package delivered to her.
