A much fairer comparison is the original student loan forgiveness vs. tax cuts - they both prevent the government from acquiring money it had planned to get in the future. They reduce income, not increase spending.

I know the trendy thing to do right now is to compare PPP loan forgiveness with student loan forgiveness, but that is a disingenuous apples to orange comparison.

Every company that applied for PP loans had the expectation they would be forgiven. 1/

The "forgiveness" in PPP was an enforcement measure to ensure that the money was used as described and not just pocketed for stock benefits. Stick to the rules and you don't have to pay it back.

In addition, student loan forgiveness doesn't include any new money. 2/
