This week at the Nashville Energy Mining Summit the @256FOUNDATION (@skot9000@ryankuester@jungly@econoalchemist@Schnitzel) presented something that hasn’t existed in #Bitcoin for a long time:
👉 a fully open-source Bitcoin mining stack
Hardware. Firmware. Software. Mining Pool.
Every layer open.
Yes, it also cooked steaks. More on that later 🥩⚡
In my last monthly letter I wrote about why mining decentralization is important, and also inevitable.
Few groups are doing more to decentralize Bitcoin mining hardware and software than the 256 Foundation.
If you mine, consider donating some hashrate.
I’m pointing my home miners there, and maybe a few more.
May the hashing luck gods be with us.
Today at 1pm EST on the @HomeMiningPod we have one of the most exciting episodes to date.
@Schnitzel of the @256FOUNDATION showed off the power of open source development with the DoomAxe and his Libreboard.
Find it on the @SoloSatoshi YT Channel

@nickfost_ Preferably as many different S19J Pro Hashboard model numbers as possible. (Need to test and validate them all) And if possible two of each in case I kill one 😁
Sometimes you win some, sometimes you loose some.
Mujina: 1
S19J Pro Hashboard: 0
The way of a fully open source #Bitcoin Miner isn't a straight path...
Anybody wants to sponsor some S19JPro Hashboards? :))
@JStefanop1 Oh yea, they are awful. Also you need to "boot" them with power on the outputs? Makes no sense at all, got an DALY 4S-16S BMS on the way, a bit overkill, but cheap ($15) and a lot better protection.
@keegreil@256FOUNDATION@SoloSatoshi Yes, its a full linux computer (its the same as a raspberry pi 5). So it can run a full Bitcoin Node (even archival), including Datum, inluding Tailscale, HomeAssistant, etc. basically no limits.
Oh and Doom of course
24h later we tested more! What should we test next on the LibreBoard by @256FOUNDATION ?
- MIPI DSI Port with a Display with Touch!
- Full Raspberry Pi HAT via Sense Hat with joystick, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Brightness, Pressure and a fun 8x8 RGB LED Matrix
- Finally powered just by 12v-18v and no longer 5v and 12v, making it super easy to deploy anywhere
What feature did you always want a Miner Control-board to have but couldn't because it was not open source? Let me know and I will build and test it!
LibreBoard Revision 1/2 testing continues:
I built a LibreBoard-Axe!
- Mujina running on Libreboard with a Raspbeery Pi CM5.
- Connected via USB to a Bitaxe Gamma running Bitaxe RAW Firmware (allows Mujina to mine on the Bitaxe like it is a hash board)
- Real-time mining stats on a OLED Display connected via Qwiic
- Temperature Sensor daisy-chained also via Qwiic
- 120mm 12V Fan connected to Libreboard
- Fan RPM controller modulates the Fan speed based on the Temp sensor
- Fan speed Target and RPMs shown on the OLED Display
- Integrated RGB LED shows temperature via color: Blue (cold) to Red (warm)
- HDMI Display showing the 256 Pool Dashboard
- And obviously the best: completely open source hardware and software
Check the video!
This is just the first step of testing all the IO, connectors and peripherals of the LibreBoard. More hardware coming in next days to test more (display, camera, Raspberry HAT, etc.)
Anybody wants to sponsor 3 more Bitaxes so I can test all 4 USB Ports? :)
First working prototype of The Ampminer: A stock S19j Pro running Mujina firmware with a touchscreen (from the Bitaxe GT Touch). Full WiFi connection. Native AC Infinity duct fan support.
@tatumturnup@tylerkstevens I know, almost like the current Mining Producers don't know anything about fun....
Anyway, I'm thinking about forking Mujina that it only sends Shares if you actually play Doom and are alive. If you slack or die, Mujina stops to send shares to the pool.
Oh yes it can! With Ammo and Health display on the LED Matrix
And yes: In case you are wondering, we're mining Bitcoin at the same time.
Bitcoin Mining will never be the same again.
