Our work reveals that in zebrafish embryos, Wnt5b and Ror2 are transported via cytonemes to initiate Wnt-PCP signaling, challenging traditional views on cellular responsiveness based solely on receptor expression https://t.co/2iBtBYiKzL @UK_Wnt@LSI_Exeter
This idea has significant implications because cells not expressing a specific receptor can still transduce the signal. Cytonemes facilitate the exchange of receptors. This idea extends our concept of competence and adds a new level of cellular plasticity. 3/3.
Happy New Year! I hope 2025 is good for you all. We start this year with a somewhat controversial review. https://t.co/5U15coWUlr. Here, we discuss how a cell receives signalling receptors from neighbouring cells, allowing them to transduce a previously unknown signal. 1/3
This ability to react is transient (until receptor degradation). We refer to such a feature as "adoptive competence" - in contrast to Waddington's "innate" competence to transduce a specific signal. Translated to Emil Fischer’s concept of “key and lock”. 2/3
@AdrianoAguzzi Hi Adriano, maybe you missed it, but most of the science folks are now on BlueSky. So come over and find an open and scientifically interested community. For example, we are already on 🦋: @scholpplab.blsky.social.

@fungalhyphae Hi Darren - there is no need for cross-posting anymore, as most of the science folks are now on BlueSky. So come over and find an open and scientifically interested community. For example, we are already on 🦋: @scholpplab.blsky.social.

@Danio_polska@ZDMSociety@ritafior@ChampalimaudF@eu_fish Maybe you missed it, but all the zebrafish folks are on BlueSky. So come over and find an open and scientifically interested community with lots of potential participants for your meeting. For example, we are already on BlueSky: @scholpplab.blsky.social.
@VivianLiLab@TheCrick@CR_UK Hi Vivian - you may want to come over to BlueSky to find open and scientifically interested applicants. For example, we are already on BlueSky: @scholpplab.blsky.social.
That is a big blow for Twitter. We did the transition yesterday. You can find us (and a supportive, open and scientifically interested community) on BlueSky: @scholpplab.blsky.social
Bluesky is currently the #1 free app on the Top charts 🔵
Twitter (X) is no longer in the top 25!
You will find us @scholpplab.bsky.social like all the other cell/dev bios.
Seems like there is some serious momentum many months after I set up a profile there...
