should I have just now changed my twitter handle? definitely not. But it's a phrase I've been saying over and over lately, I didn't love my old handle, and BacteriaAndBikes, which I initially wanted, is too long. Plus this one subtly hints at my research past + writing present.
also I made a thing to explain fusion at the atomic level. It didn't make the story because okay maybe it's a little too detailed for a general audience but you better believe the physics account is sharing it on social once the main story traffic slows down a bit :)
Six weeks ago, I said "no more procrastinating," opened up a @WhamOfficial_ youtube greatest hits playlist, and started writing a news story. This ⬇️ is that story. #FusionEnergy#CleanEnergy

After years of testing & support from @ENERGY, @UWMadPhysics scientists, in partnership with @RealtaFusion & @CFS_energy, generated plasma for the first time with the WHAM fusion device, opening a door to making the carbon-free energy source a reality.

Me: writes reasonable email asking a small-town paper to link back to the story I wrote that they copied verbatim. Does not accuse them, does not threaten them, does not ask for my name to be on it. Just for a link back.
Editor: "please don't get so excited." 😡
Extra extra, read all about it! We are thrilled to announce the 2024 class of #MassMediaFellows! These 20 scientists will spend their summer in news outlets writing, reporting, and working on their #SciComm skills! Learn more about the 2024 class here: https://t.co/JzeR00IZY3
Morning, #APSMarch! Today at 3pm, join us for the panel “Science Communication 101,” where journalist @kpcallaghan_, press officer @ScienceIsAVerb, and physicist @karenedaniels will talk about all things #scicomm!

@UWMadPhysics
Apparently I'm enough of a designer that I noticed this change on day 1 (and was excited!), but not enough that I know the difference between typeface and font. This is what 5 years of playing a graphic designer at work leads to 😀
Calibri has been Microsoft Word's default font for nearly two decades. Now, many users have been typing in Aptos, a sans serif typeface but with something a little extra. “We wanted it to be a little more quirky and whimsical,” Microsoft said. https://t.co/qZP2S1ahub
Happy anniversary, @UWMadison! In honor of #UW175, The Wonders Of Physics created this demo on time — with a perfect 75 oscillations (sorry, 175 is just too much!) in one minute for the shortest pendulum. The entire sequence is a mesmerizing pattern of weaving bocce balls 👀
One reason I left academic bench science was because I felt like a dinosaur, caring about trivial details of basic molecular biology. Still, I was and forever will be a champion of #BasicScience, so this analysis that shows its importance makes me smile.

@cmhustmyer@LandickLab @WinglabUNLV Oooh I’m so jealous! I loved that little city. If I ever more to the Netherlands, which I might someday just for their bike culture, I think that’s the place I’d pick…based on my one lovely evening and morning there. Also had my first rijsttafel at a cute spot there, 10/10.
Physicists: read this article, see how incredibly well-done it is, and then PLEASE BE INSPIRED TO TAKE MY JOB FROM ME. This is what great physics research comms looks like. https://t.co/NrtYf9wGHR
Annual “pretend I’m at #phages2023” post. It’s been fun to bump into people from my previous life! I’ll be here a little while yet today and some tomorrow, hmu if you’re around.
Come work with me! We're hiring a #quantum science #outreach program manager, with a preference for anyone who has a passion for sharing science in an engaging, equitable, and accessible way. #ScienceOutreach#OutreachJobs

Learning about astrophysics for my next article in @journalsentinel was a HUGE step out of my comfort zone from #devbio. Read about the discovery of 'ghost particles' in our Milky Way here: 🌌👻⚛️https://t.co/IW4fUk1IrS
