π€β Robots that can feel pain?
Scientists in China just built an electronic skin (e-skin) that lets humanoid robots tell the difference between a gentle touch and a blow strong enough to cause damage.
Instead of routing every signal through a slow central processor, it works like your spinal cord β reacting instantly. When pressure crosses that danger threshold, the robot yanks its arm away in a flash, no "thinking" required. π³
This e-skin is also modular β made of separate patches, so a damaged section can be snapped off and replaced like Lego, instead of swapping out the whole skin. π¦Ύβ‘

πͺπ Saturn's south pole just got weird β a giant 10-sided storm pattern, or "decagon," is swirling around it. NASA's Hubble Space Telescope traced the strange geometric wave back to 2023, and it's only gotten sharper since.
It stretches through multiple layers of Saturn's atmosphere, so it's way more than just clouds. π³
The planet's north pole already has its famous six-sided hexagon storm β now the south has its own mysterious twin.
Scientists have no idea yet why it formed. πβ¨

π¨π€ Elon Musk just said Optimus robots will out-perform the world's best human surgeons in 3 years β and by 2030, there could be more robot surgeons than all human surgeons on Earth combined. π₯β‘
His pitch: a skill that takes 15 years to train dies with the person who has it β but a robot surgeon can be copied instantly and sent anywhere, even remote villages with zero specialists. ππ
Medical experts aren't convinced: bioethicist Arthur Caplan called the timeline "not credible," pointing out that robotic surgery progress has been slow even for well-studied procedures. π’π¬

ποΈ Mountain regions around the world are warming especially fast, and that's bad news β the ice acting as "glue" holding rocky slopes and glaciers together is melting away. π‘οΈ
This is exactly what scientists point to in Nepal's deadly recent flood, where a huge chunk of glacier and rock broke free high in the Himalayas and came crashing down, destroying homes and villages. π
Experts warn that as permafrost and glacial ice keep thawing, these kinds of catastrophic landslides and floods will become more frequent, putting millions of people living downstream at risk. β οΈ

βοΈ The Sun really does put things into perspective β it contains about 99.86% of all the mass in our entire Solar System. π
We live on this tiny rock next to an object so massive that almost everything else in the Solar System barely registers.
That massive ball of plasma is powered by nuclear fusion at its core, converting hydrogen into helium and releasing an enormous amount of energy every second, some of which reaches us as sunlight after an 8-minute journey through space. π₯β¨
It's a humbling reminder of just how small our home planet really is in the cosmic scheme of things.

π¨π Nearly 300 people in North Carolina are being evaluated for rabies after visiting a mobile petting zoo where baby goats tested positive for the virus.
Farm Adventures, based in Harmony, NC, took the goats to at least 10 locations statewide between July 28 and August 27 β including assisted living centers and a back-to-school event β before officials discovered a wild skunk had gotten into the goats' pen. π¦¨
Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but post-exposure treatment is nearly 100% effective if given in time. β οΈ
More than 320 people in the state have received preventive treatment so far.

π¨ ELON MUSK ON WHO SHOULD CONTROL HIS COMPANIES:
In a Wall Street Journal CEO Council interview, Musk called succession "one of the toughest age-old problems," noting it's challenged kings, presidents, and CEOs throughout history with no easy fix. π
He revealed he's already given the board his personal pick for who should take over if something happens to him unexpectedly β though he hasn't named the person publicly. π€
The harder question, he said, is long-term control of the companies he's built, something he's still wrestling with and open to ideas on. π
His stated goal: make sure stewardship of these companies ultimately serves humanity. π
